Restored hotel offers choices
The 1899 Montvale Hotel is one of the best surviving examples of a single-room occupancy hotel that served working class residents in the early 20th century. It was renovated a decade ago, about the same time as the Davenport Hotel. The main floor contains Scratch, a fine-dining restaurant with regional wines. Next to it is Scout, a more traditional bar. Along Monroe Street on the east side of the building is the entrance to Catacombs Pub in the basement of the Montvale. Catacombs has a European feel.
