Summary

Jack Barrett recorded a goal and an assist inside the first quarter of an hour as Lake City continued their unbeaten run to start Inland Empire League play with a 3-1 win over Post Falls at Coeur d'Alene on Saturday.

The Timberwolves (5-0-1 overall, 2-0-1 IEL5A) got started in the 7th minute when Max Mularski won the ball deep in the Post Falls half. He whipped in a cross from the right wing toward Barrett at the far post. The forward met the cross on the dive and headed the ball past a helpless Noah Gondo in the Post Falls goal for the early 1-0 lead.

Barrett turned provider eight minutes later when his through ball found Dylan Flolo streaking in on goal. Flolo slotted his shot past Gondo to double LC's advantage in the 15th.

Reigning Idaho state Player of the Year Timmy Mueller pulled Post Falls (4-2-1, 1-1) back within one with his individual goal before the halftime break. The Oregon State-bound forward held off two defenders and blistered a right-footed shot from inside the box past LC goalkeeper Tanner Horton in the 33rd.

Lake City put the game away in the 76th when Alec Maldandao slipped behind a stretched Post Falls defense. As he prepared to shoot, Maldandao was brought down by a backtracking Trojans' defender. Ryan Swallow steeped up to the spot and buried the penalty to seal the game for the Timberwolves.

On Tuesday, Lake City travels to Sandpoint for a nonleague game while Post Falls hosts second-place Coeur d'Alene in an IEL5A game.
