Summary

Asher Cox scored 23 points including a buzzer-beater to force overtime and the Crusaders (22-1) edged the Lancers (17-6) 61-57 in overtime on Saturday in the District 7 2B title game at West Valley HS.

Both teams advance to next weekend’s regional tournament.

Liberty led 14-7 after the first quarter and were up by six at intermission. In the second half, Cox caught fire and NWC tied it late in the fourth.

Liberty’s Chase Burnham nailed a 3-pointer from the corner to give the Lancers a 3-point lead with seven seconds left. Cox then swished a buzzer-beater from beyond the arc to send the game into overtime.

In overtime, Rolf Veenstra nailed an early 3-pointer and Cox sealed the game with two big free throws. Veenstra finished with 16 points and Ryan Ricks added 14 points.

Burnham led Liberty with 22 points and Tyler Haas added 14. Thomas Redder scored 10 points.
