Jaden Ghoreishi returns from long-term illness, helps Mt. Spokane advance; Gonzaga Prep boys shut down Glacier Peak | State basketball

It had been since Dec. 20 that Mt. Spokane senior Jaden Ghoreishi suited up for the Wildcats. Last year’s Greater Spokane League MVP was averaging 18.1 points per game through the nonleague portion of the season – but he knew he wasn’t right, thinking maybe it was a cold he couldn’t shake off.

What happened: Cameron Walls hit a buzzer beater and the 13th-seeded Bears (18-7) eliminated the visiting 20th-seeded Lancers (15-9) in a State 3A play-in game on Tuesday. Walls led CV with 17 points, Orland Axton had 14. Raziah Patterson had a trio of 3-pointers for Lakes and Ray Smith added 14 points. Central Valley will face 12th-seeded Liberty in the regional round on Saturday at Issaquah HS.
