When Fred Carter walks through his Spokane garden, he takes a stroll through a lifetime of memories. The gardens were created when the house, the original Wessel estate, was built in 1905. Carter's parents purchased the house in 1945 and lived there until their deaths. Carter inherited the house two years ago and has set about bringing the gardens back to their original glory.

Contain bishop’s weed

In the front of my house, between the sidewalk and the carport, I planted a yellow/green plant that flowers, called bishop's weed. I bought it several years ago to make a border plant. This summer at the farmers' market, I learned that this plant will take over everything. I have cut off the blossoms so that they won't go to seed.
