The “Horn” of a Pelican Early Monday morning, White Pelicans flew in to feed at Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge. They have one of the largest wingspans of any North American bird, at nine feet. During spring breeding season, there is a “horn” or “nuptial tubercle” on the upper part of their bills, both male and female. It falls off when mating season is over.

I was photographing two eagles playing in the sky and then they gave me a quick show. These two are the epitome of love birds.

It was bittersweet saying goodbye to the eagles until they return in a November. This eagle was flying around near me and I quietly thanked him for letting me photograph him. It was as if he heard me and did a “fly by.” After I was finished shooting, I wiped the tears from my eyes. It was a very beautiful and surreal moment.

As the sun was setting over Lake Coeur d’Alene at Higgens Point, it was getting very cold. But, for some reason, I couldn’t leave. I was waiting for that perfect shot. And, there he was, the happy eagle, flying over my head, rejoicing with his fish safely tucked in his talons.

As I was packing my camera gear at Higgens Point, I saw in the distance, the eagle flying towards me. I grabbed my camera as fast as I could and snapped as he flew to me, over me and passed me. I was left in awe as i said goodbye until November.

If I don't look at you, you really aren't there. This little Saw White owl was tucked into it's roosting spot for the day but would not look my way. Taken South of Cheney Jan. 15, 2019.

A Long -eared owl flew right over my head and landed in front of me and stayed long enough to give me a photo. Can be very difficult to find as they roost during the day in very dense brush. Taken South of Cheney Jan. 15, 2019.

Near Wolf Lodge, alongside Beauty Bay there was a goose on top of a power pole. I have never seen a goose anywhere but on the ground, in the water or in the air. It was cloudy day and a bad spot to stop along the highway, which is why it isn't the best photo.
