This is the second image from our last birding trip. Once we left the burrowing owls, we went onto Soap Lake and imaged some marsh and shore birds. Gavin captured this image of a "Black-necked stilt," as it took off from feeding in the shallows. The story of Soap Lake could make an interesting editorial story in and of itself for your Outdoors column. It has been known for centuries by local first nation tribes for it's medicinal minerals for bathing in and soothing various ailments. Thank you for your consideration.

My Grandson Gavin, a recent grad from North Central HS, was published on one occasion by you folks awhile ago. He has become an accomplished birder / photographer and leaves shortly (Aug 9th) for college in Tempe, AZ. I thank you for all the times you have published my work and just hope that this image could be selected for Gavin's input before he departs for Az State U. It would mean a lot to all of us. It represents our last birding adventure for us together to Ephrata, WA seeking the "burrowing owls," this past Monday. Thank you for your consideration, Jerry R O L W E S

Went looking for Monarch Butterflies on the only patch of Milkweed I know of. Along the Columbia Plateau Trail between the Cheney-Spangle and Cheney-Plaza trailheads. Didn't find any but the appropriately named Red Milkweed beetles are out. Seen mid July.
