Arkansas hires SMU’s Chad Morris as new football coach

Arkansas has hired SMU’s Chad Morris as the new football coach. The 49-year-old Morris was a longtime Texas high school coach and former Clemson offensive coordinator. He agreed to a six-year contract worth $3.5 million annually to take over the Razorbacks. He replaces fired coach Bret Bielema. Morris went 14-22 in three seasons at SMU, improving each year before a 7-5 finish this year.

Area roundup: Gonzaga tops Arkansas

Sophomore Justin Jacobs smacked a three-run home run in the fourth inning and freshman Calvin LeBrun stranded eight runners in six innings of work to lead the Gonzaga Bulldogs to a 6-2 victory over the Arkansas Razorbacks in Fayetteville, Arkansas, on Tuesday. It marked the first time that GU won a game on a Southeastern Conference opponent’s field.

HOUSTON – Growing up as a child in Arkansas, Charlie Strong loved watching the Razorbacks and Texas play. In his first season as the Longhorns’ coach, he can’t wait to renew the old rivalry tonight in the Texas Bowl.
