The men and women who died left behind families members now coming to terms, in their own ways, with the country's complicated exit from the country and the legacy of those who didn't come back.
Gloria Hackwith lost her son, Army Chief Warrant Officer Clint Prather, in the conflict in Afghanistan 16 years ago. Last month, she had to say goodbye to his stepfather, Dave Hackwith, who died after contracting COVID-19.
