Pitt releases Cameron Johnson to play at UNC as graduate transfer

Pittsburgh has released guard Cameron Johnson to play immediately at North Carolina as a graduate transfer. The school had cited an internal policy in trying to require the 6-foot-8 Johnson to sit out a year if he went to another Atlantic Coast Conference school instead of playing right away with two seasons of eligibility. Johnson’s father is former Pittsburgh player Gil Johnson, who told The Associated Press that there are “no hard feelings.”

Pittsburgh, graduate transfer at odds over move to UNC

Former Pittsburgh guard Cameron Johnson is fighting the school to allow him to play immediately at North Carolina as a graduate transfer next season. Pitt wants the 6-foot-8 Johnson to sit out a year if he goes to another Atlantic Coast Conference school. Johnson graduated in three years and committed Tuesday to play for the reigning national champion Tar Heels with two seasons of eligibility.

UNC responds to 3rd set of NCAA charges in academic case

North Carolina is arguing that the NCAA is overreaching in its investigation of the school’s long-running academic fraud case. The school has released its 102-page response to its third set of charges it received from the NCAA. It forcefully makes an argument that largely mirrors the arguments it made last August to a previous Notice of Allegations. AD Bubba Cunningham says the key issue is that NCAA bylaws cover athletics, not how academics are managed.

Ex-N.C. Central QB receives probation in UNC agents probe

A former college football player charged with violating North Carolina’s sports agent law has received probation in a deal with prosecutors. Michael Wayne Johnson Jr., 28, was charged in 2013 with three felony counts of athlete-agent inducement from 2010. Under terms of the conditional discharge agreement, those charges were reduced to misdemeanors and will be dismissed after he completes 12 months of unsupervised probation and performs community service.
