The Seattle Mariners are monitoring Ichiro Suzuki’s strained right calf to determine whether he’ll be on the opening day roster or the disabled list. Suzuki went 0 for 3 with a walk and played seven innings in left in a 5-2 victory over the Colorado Rockies. The 44-year-old Suzuki is hitless in 10 at-bats with two walks and five strikeouts since signing on March 7.

Vogelbach led all of spring training with a .407 batting average, a .529 on-base percentage and a .926 slugging percentage.

The Seattle Mariners are expected to sign Jayson Werth to a minor league contract, a deal contingent on a successful physical. Manager Scott Servais said before Seattle’s spring training finale that Werth’s name was brought up about a week ago and the Mariners believe there may be an opportunity for him to get some at-bats at Triple-A to see what is left. Servais said Werth likely would be at extended spring training for a while.

Inland Northwest baseball fans will run into an old friend at Safeco Field this season.

Pitcher Wade LeBlanc has a $650,000 salary in his one-year contract with the Seattle Mariners. The 33-year-old left-hander agreed in January to a minor league contract with the Yankees and had a 5.27 ERA in 13 2/3 innings over seven spring training appearances. He was released by New York last week. LeBlanc is a veteran of nine major league seasons. He was 3-0 with a 4.50 ERA in eight starts and three relief appearances for the Mariners in 2016.

Seattle Mariners ace Felix Hernandez is set to start on opening day for the 10th straight year.

Hernandez allowed one run in 3.2 innings as the Mariners went on to blow out a split-squad Cubs team.
