One of the game’s nuances is getting extra treatment this spring in Mariners’ camp: pitch framing by catchers. And it’s not just because new manager Scott Servais is a former catcher.

Second baseman Robinson Cano arrived Thursday for the start of full-squad drills in the Mariners’ camp and immediately began putting out some off-season fires.

The official line this spring is right-hander Taijuan Walker is pitching to keep his job in the Mariners’ rotation.

The bullpen math is already in place for the Mariners: 17 relievers in camp for five positions. The preferred mix, according to general manager Jerry Dipoto, is five right-handers and two left-handers.

Then on Friday, his former agent was arrested on federal charges involving illegal smuggling of baseball players from Cuba to the United States.
