Wei-Yin Chen leads Orioles past Mariners

BALTIMORE – Even though Austin Jackson and Chris Denorfia did not get any hits in their debut for the Mariners, manager Lloyd McClendon already likes the new dynamic they bring to the lineup. The duo were acquired prior to the non-waiver trade deadline and started Friday against Baltimore with Jackson batting leadoff and playing centerfield and Denorfia batting sixth and playing right. On this night, however, none of the Mariners had an answer for Baltimore lefty Wei-Yin Chen.

Mike Zunino’s homer lifts Mariners past Indians

CLEVELAND – Mike Zunino’s two-run homer in the eighth inning lifted the Seattle Mariners to a 6-5 win over the Cleveland Indians on Thursday night. Bryan Shaw (4-3) walked Kyle Seager to start the inning before Zunino hit a 2-0 pitch into the left-field bleachers for his 17th home run.

Mariners fail to get key hit in loss to Orioles

SEATTLE – You can’t say the Seattle Mariners didn’t hit on Sunday. In fact, the Mariners totaled 10 hits in 10 innings, three of them from the resurgent Dustin Ackley, three of them from catcher Mike Zunino – including a solo home run that tied the score in the eighth – and another two from rookie shortstop Chris Taylor, not yet through his first week in the big leagues.

Young pitches Mariners past Orioles

SEATTLE – Four months ago, Chris Young was on the verge of retiring from baseball. Good thing for the Mariners he decided to give the game another shot. Young allowed two hits in seven shutout innings and Seattle snapped a four-game losing streak by holding off the Baltimore Orioles 4-3 on Saturday.
