Saunders helps M’s split with Red Sox

SEATTLE – Michael Saunders lined a two-run single off Boston reliever Hideki Okajima in the bottom of the eighth inning to give Seattle the lead, Milton Bradley’s squeeze bunt added another run, and the Mariners rallied for a 4-2 win over the Red Sox on Sunday. The Mariners’ unlikely rally salvaged a split of the four-game series and sent Boston into the final stage of its 10-game West Coast trip now eight games behind the New York Yankees in the American League East.

Saunders sparks M’s again

SEATTLE – Michael Saunders lined a two-run single off Boston reliever Hideki Okajima in the bottom of the eighth inning to give Seattle the lead, Milton Bradley’s squeeze bunt added another run, and the Mariners rallied for a 4-2 win over the Red Sox on Sunday. The Mariners’ unlikely rally salvaged a split of the four-game series and sent Boston into the final stage of its 10-game West Coast trip now eight games behind the New York Yankees in the American League East. It was the second straight day Saunders came up with a game-changing hit. A night earlier, Saunders broke up Jon Lester’s no-hit bid with a two-run homer in the sixth inning of Seattle’s 5-1 victory.

M’s rally late

SEATTLE – The zero that remained on the scoreboard as Boston’s Jon Lester kept rolling through Seattle’s offense was certainly being noticed in the Mariners’ dugout. “We were all talking about it trying to jinx it,” Seattle left fielder Michael Saunders said.

M’s fight in dugout, not on field

SEATTLE — Josh Beckett was in command in his return from two months on the disabled list, and Bill Hall homered in the seventh inning to lift the Boston Red Sox to a 2-1 victory over the squabbling Seattle Mariners on Friday night.

M’s rally goes for naught

SEATTLE – Like the question about trees falling in the woods, if a pitcher throws a no-hitter against the 2010 Seattle Mariners, is it really a no-hitter? For 7 2/3 innings Thursday night at Safeco Field, Boston Red Sox right-hander John Lackey made people ask that question about the light-hitting Mariners.

M’s break through in 11th

SEATTLE — Franklin Gutierrez’s two-run single off Chicago closer Bobby Jenks in the bottom of the 11th inning sent the Seattle Mariners to a 2-1 victory over the stunned White Sox on Wednesday night. Ageless Omar Vizquel looked like the star after singling home Gordon Beckham with two outs in the top of the 11th for the game’s first run.

Hapless M’s flatline

SEATTLE – Bad news for the A.L. Central: The White Sox have snapped out of their mini-slump, and Bobby Jenks appears to be back on track, too. John Danks combined with J.J. Putz and Jenks on a two-hitter, Alexei Ramirez homered and first-place Chicago beat the woeful Seattle Mariners 4-0 on Tuesday.

Mariners lose 13th in past 16 games

SEATTLE – Chicago general manager Kenny Williams doesn’t foresee any deals to augment his White Sox before the trading-without-waivers deadline in two weeks. That’s OK. The big bat he got last summer is working out just fine.

Mariners get rare ‘W’ vs. Los Angeles

ANAHEIM, Calif. – One subtle pump of third-base umpire Bob Davidson’s fist helped ensure that the Seattle Mariners would not add to their long list of late-game disasters. Instead, they held on Sunday for a hard-earned 2-1 victory over the Angels in 10 innings that would have been far more rousing had it not lifted them to 20 games under .500.

Rivera’s HR beats Mariners

ANAHEIM, Calif. — Juan Rivera hit a tiebreaking homer in the seventh inning, Mike Napoli also went deep and the Los Angeles Angels beat the Seattle Mariners 7-6 Saturday night after blowing a five-run lead against the A.L.’s lowest-scoring team.
