Casey Kotchman snapped a tie with an RBI double in the seventh off the glove of leaping Detroit right fielder Ryan Raburn, and the Seattle Mariners won their fourth straight with a 4-2 victory over the Tigers on Saturday night at Seattle.

Felix Hernandez returned home and showed why Seattle recently gave him $78 million, and the Mariners’ usually quiet bats made their most noise in eight months in an 11-3 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Friday night at Seattle.

Milton Bradley’s broken-bat, two-run single in the fifth brought Seattle even and Franklin Gutierrez’s splintering single an inning later gave the Mariners the lead for good in a 4-2 win over the Oakland Athletics on Wednesday night.

SEATTLE – I guess I didn’t understand. I thought that when the Seattle Mariners traded for Milton Bradley last December, they were acquiring the spray-hitting outfielder who had such a good season with Texas a couple of years ago. I didn’t realize they actually were acquiring a backlog of board games marketed by the company of the same name.

SEATTLE – In a three-batter span bridging innings 2 and 3 on Monday afternoon, the Seattle Mariners put a face on all the offseason fuss. On a grounder deep into the hole, shortstop Jack Wilson ranged behind the crossing path of third baseman Jose Lopez, gloved the ball and grenade-lobbed it over Lopez and in the general direction of first baseman Casey Kotchman, who stretched high to the outfield side for the putout. Then second baseman Chone Figgins angled quickly to the right field line to snare a troublesome pop fly on a dead run. And finally, Kotchman did a full layout to stop a one-hop rocket down the line and then outraced Oakland’s Gabe Gross to the bag.

SEATTLE _ They’re built to play a style of baseball that once upon a time worked at Safeco Field. What the Seattle Mariners unveiled Monday in their home opener was hardly a flashback to the 2000 or 2001 playoff teams that won with pitching, defense and a small-ball offense. This one harkened merely to last week, and it wasn’t any less painful. The Mariners continued to flail _ and fail _ to put runners on base and advance them in a 4-0 loss to the Oakland A’s. It left the Mariners with a 2-6 record to start the season.
