Burglary Suspect Rams Patrol Cars Silverton Man Arrested After Chase In Osburn

A Silverton man wanted in connection with a burglary allegedly used a stolen minivan to ram two patrol cars early Wednesday in Osburn, sheriff's deputies said. Steven G. Faith, 42, was booked into Shoshone County Jail on two counts of aggravated assault on police officers, possession of stolen property, burglary, felony eluding of a police officer and driving without privileges. No one was injured.

Woman Held In Attack With An Assault Rifle

A 45-year-old woman was jailed late Thursday after shoving an assault rifle in a man's face during a drunken confrontation, police said. The man, a former roommate, wrestled the gun away from the woman. She then grabbed him by the hair, pulled him to the ground and slammed his head into the pavement several times, police said. Cheryl D. Holland of Coeur d'Alene was arrested for aggravated assault and drunken driving.

Hammer Attack Unplanned, Says Wife-Killer’s Lawyer

Spontaneous rage, not a murderous plan, prompted John Whipple to bludgeon his wife to death with a hammer, an attorney for the man said Wednesday. Whipple, 46, does not deny beating his wife, rolling her body onto a sleeping bag and stuffing her into the trunk of the family car, said Val Siegel, Whipple's public defender. He never intended for it to happen and does not remember doing it, the attorney said at the opening of Whipple's murder trial.

Miner Killed While Repairing Sunshine Shaft

A 57-year-old shaft repairman died early Tuesday in an accident at the Sunshine Mining and Refining Co. Tom Huff, an experienced miner, and about 15 other workers were nearing the end of their shift when the accident happened, said Harry Cougher, the mine's senior vice president and chief operating officer.
