California Man Says He Killed Two

A California man has confessed to killing two men whose bodies were discovered near Ritzville in mid-June, authorities said Friday. The Adams County Prosecutor's Office filed a request for an arrest warrant in Adams County Superior Court late Friday afternoon, charging Shawn Ryan of Orangevale, Calif., with two counts of premeditated first-degree murder. Sheriff Mike Kline called the killings "a drug-related matter."

Two Teenagers Attacked In Similar Incidents

Sheriff's deputies are calling separate attacks on two teenagers in the Spokane Valley related. In both cases, a group of men was seen in a red Honda Prelude and a lowered, white and purple Chevrolet Blazer and the victims were hit in the head by clubs.

Fugitive Caught Near Rail Yards

A fugitive who was to be profiled on a national television show was arrested early Thursday morning by Spokane police. Robert Harris, 54, was arrested as a wanted fugitive at 5:30 a.m. after Burlington Northern security guards caught him on railroad property near Havana and Broadway and called police, said Dick Cottam, police department spokesman. Harris' story was set to be broadcast this fall on "America's Most Wanted" after members of a San Diego law enforcement task force, which includes the U.S. Marshal's office and the FBI, submitted the case to the show.

New Greens, Pond Add To Golfing Challenge, Fun Liberty Lake Course Trying To Shake Image Of Being Too Easy

Some seem more impressed by the aesthetic improvements, others by the added challenge. But golfers seem to agree the changes at countyowned Liberty Lake Golf Course have made it more fun to play. New greens were built at holes No. 2, 7 and 12 and new tees were installed at No. 10 and 13. A pond between holes No. 3, 4 and 7 was also constructed. "The course is in better shape than I've ever seen it," Lyle Anderson said, adding that he had been golfing at Liberty Lake for years.

Barbecue Softens Hard-Core Neighborhood

Kevin Chen strolled between the 20 or so tables that made up a make-shift picnic area along south Madison. Inner-city residents - both young and old - gathered to devour hamburgers, hot dogs and potato salad. They munched on chips and savored the frozen cups of orange sherbet and vanilla ice cream.

Computer Theft Suspect Scuffles With Store Owner

Spokane County sheriff's deputies arrested a Spokane man accused of selling a stolen computer to a Valley computer store and scuffling with the store owner. Sidney Randall, 34, was arrested Monday, three days after deputies say he sold the computer to BST Computer, 6323 E. Sprague. He has been charged with five counts of trafficking in stolen property, the last three coming Thursday afternoon. Randall also was charged with third degree assault.

Teens Steal Man’s Wallet, Flee In His Car Victim Threatened With Fence Post After Finding Group Asleep In His Yard

A group of teenagers threatened a man with a metal pole, stole his wallet and sped away in his car early Tuesday, after slamming a stolen Jeep Cherokee through a fence on his Spokane Valley property. Spokane County sheriff's deputies recovered Jim Nypen's car about half an hour later. The silver 1985 Chrysler New Yorker sedan was abandoned in front of a house at 6111 E. 11th, where police believe the teens set out on foot.

Rescuer Learned Techniques From TV Show

Lessons she learned from a television show calmed LeTresa Davis enough to lend a helping hand to a screaming mother and her badly burned son Friday afternoon. Davis rushed across the street to 2422 N. Winston and plunged Bobby Hughes into a cold bath, while his mother, Judy, called 911. The boy had accidentally set himself on fire with a lighter.

Store Clerk Injured In Scuffle When Teens Attempt Theft

A Spokane Valley convenience store clerk suffered minor injuries last Friday night when he tried to stop a robbery. Five teenagers - three boys and two girls - went into the Circle 7 store at 3400 S. Dishman-Mica Road at about 10 p.m. One of the boys brought an item to the counter to pay for it, while one of the girls pocketed merchandise and left the store, Sheriff's Department spokeman Lt. Dave Wiyrick said.

Electric Tortoise Keeps On Going And Going And

It wasn't about speed, it was about distance. It didn't involve conventionally fueled cars, it involved alternative energy sources. It was the Electrathon, an amateur electric car race held at Ferris High School. The six-car race featured entrants from Spokane and Sandpoint. The hand-built electric cars navigated a quarter-mile, kidney-shaped track in the Ferris parking lot. It quickly turned into the electrical version of the race between the tortoise and the hare.

Husband Jailed After Alleged Assault, Weapon Incident

A verbal dispute between a Newman Lake couple escalated into a violent tirade Saturday that left their house damaged and the husband in jail. Deputies said James W. Feistner, 40, pointed a gun at his wife. He was arrested and charged with felony second degree assault and obstructing a public servant. The couple's son stepped in between his mother and father, causing Feistner to lower the gun. The wife and son then fled the home and called 911.
