Brigham Young University’s women’s basketball team reacted to leading scorer Lexi Eaton’s season-ending injury in an unusual way. The Cougars went out and won nine consecutive games.
You may have read recently in these pages about a Whitworth basketball player named Emily, who plays guard, specializes in 3-point shooting, plans to graduate this spring and also plays for the Pirates’ golf team. Well, there’s one more person matching that description.
Mitch Holmberg and Brenden Kichton said they don’t count their points, but the Spokane Chiefs are at their best when they can count on their points. Holmberg accounted for two goals and one assist and Kichton added one goal and two assists to carry the Chiefs to a 4-2 home win Saturday night that snapped the Kootenay Ice’s seven-game winning streak.
The self-proclaimed “nerd” of the Spokane Chiefs enjoys math but doesn’t want to focus too much on numbers. Chiefs defenseman Reid Gow won the Western Hockey League’s Daryl K. (Doc) Seaman Trophy last season as the league’s scholastic player of the year.
One way to look at it is that Liam Stewart has been limited to three goals in his last 13 games. Another way to look at it is that all three goals provided the winning margin for the Spokane Chiefs.
