Levenseller took Vandals job after almost leaving coaching

MOSCOW, Idaho – Every night Mike Levenseller makes his way from the Idaho football offices to his home in Pullman. The drive is only 10 miles, but it gives him time to reflect – on his first season with the Vandals, on his 19 years coaching at Washington State, on how he almost ended his college coaching career after last fall. “I don’t know if I would have gone anywhere else,” Levenseller said this week. “I may have wrapped it up.”

Eastern breezes past Vandals in opener

MOSCOW, Idaho – It was the story of two high-profile transfer quarterbacks – Eastern Washington’s played and Idaho’s didn’t – but it was so much more than that. The Eagles’ linebackers were swarming. Their secondary was in complete control. Their three talented receivers reeled in clutch catches all over the field.

UI receiver killed in California

MOSCOW, Idaho – The last time he spoke to Robb Akey, Idaho wide receiver Ken McRoyal shared his excitement about landing a scholarship for the fall. He had earned it with a stellar spring camp, and now he was leaving for Los Angeles to see his young daughter and family. “I can still see the smile on his face,” Akey said Sunday evening with a broken voice, recalling the conversation from last week.

Idaho evaluating options after WAC defections

MOSCOW, Idaho – Two summers ago, after Boise State announced its departure from the Western Athletic Conference, Idaho athletic director Rob Spear emphasized the resiliency of the conference. Through all the turmoil, it always found ways to stay intact. On Friday, Spear shifted gears. With the WAC possibly in its final year as an FBS football conference, he still presented a reassuring message to the media.

Former WSU coach Wulff drops in at Vandals scrimmage

MOSCOW, Idaho – Since he was fired at Washington State on Nov. 29, Paul Wulff has savored the extra time with his family. But he’s also racked up serious frequent-flyer miles. Wulff has visited NFL teams, gone to the NFL combine and Senior Bowl and watched spring practices at three Pac-12 schools and programs in the Southeast. All the traveling was an attempt to soak in as much football knowledge as possible.

Idaho’s Marboe grows up quickly as anchor of OL

MOSCOW, Idaho – Mike Marboe was speaking generally when he said the Idaho offense started from scratch this football offseason. But his comment seems especially apt for the offensive line, a unit he now anchors – after a mere 12 starts at center.
