Spokane Valley windstorm update

On the drive out to the Spokane Valley city council meeting Wednesday evening, few lights were spotted south of I90 between Freya and Argonne Road. Closer to Argonne, lights began to pick up and by Pines Road and Sprague Avenue the Valley looked nearly normal - but a lot of cleanup remains.

Wood defeats Wick for Spokane Valley City Council seat

Spokane Valley City Councilman Ben Wick has last his re-election bid to Sam Wood. Wood has a 99-vote lead over Wick in the latest count of ballots, which was released Monday afternoon. Wood has 50.3 percent of the vote to Wick’s 47.3 percent. The difference falls just outside the amount that would force an automatic recount. The candidates would have to be within a half percentage point for the election office to perform a recount.

Teal pumpkins signal safety for kids with food allergies

There’s a new pumpkin on the block tonight. Next to the familiar shades of orange, yellow and occasionally white, trick or treaters may spot a teal pumpkin. The organization Food Allergy Research and Education launched the teal pumpkin project last year, encouraging people who hand out allergy safe non-food treats on Halloween to put a teal-colored pumpkin on their front step.
