Lakeland Planning Bond Levy Need For Space Overrides Bad Track Record

Unfettered by a dismal history of bond levy attempts, the Lakeland School District is planning a bond election in the spring. Classroom space isn't desperately short yet in the largely rural district, but if growth continues at even conservative projections, at least four schools will be over capacity by fall 1998.

Favoritism Alleged By Parents Cda School Board Chairman Accused Of Unfair Treatment

Some parents are complaining that the school board chairman is playing favorites among factions in the Coeur d'Alene School District. Chairman Ken Burchell arranged for the citizens group Parents for Academic Excellence to present a 40-minute critique of the district's reading program Monday night over the protests of three other board members.

School board members raised their voices and turned red in the face Monday night as they argued over whether to allow parents to critique the district's philosophy of reading instruction. Citizens for Academic Excellence, a group of concerned parents, asked to be placed on the agenda to make a presentation. The group formed last year to urge the district to get "back to the basics."

Use Of Medications At Schools To Be Reviewed Nurses Board Against School Secretaries Dispensing Powerful Drugs Such As Ritalin

Growing concern over powerful prescription drugs given at schools has prompted the Idaho Board of Nursing to assign a task force to see if greater supervision is needed. The task force holds its first meeting Monday in Boise, and may eventually address a host of medical procedures in schools. Initially, medication is the main issue.

City Won’t Release Bond For Upscale Development

The developer of the upscale Riverside Harbor subdivision isn't getting much cooperation these days. Not only did residents vote Thursday to usurp his power over their homeowners' association, but the City Council this week denied his request to release a performance bond on the 8th Addition of the subdivision.
