Fed Candidate Endorsed

From Staff

President Clinton’s nomination of economist Janet L. Yellen to the Federal Reserve Board was endorsed 18-1 Friday by the Senate Banking Committee.

Her confirmation, expected by the full Senate later this month, would bring the seven-member board to full strength for the first time since midFebruary.

Princeton University economist Alan S. Blinder, formerly a member of the White House Council of Economic Advisers, was sworn in as Fed vice chairman in June.
