Last-Minute Candidate Offers Choice

From Staff

A last-minute filing at the Spokane County elections office means state Rep. Todd Mielke won’t be running unopposed this fall.

Democrat Sandie Kapstafer, 31, filed as a candidate for Mielke’s 6th District seat Friday - the last day to register for unopposed slots.

In a press release, Kapstafer said she decided to run because of concerns about a single-candidate election.

“I feel that my candidacy gives the public a chance to choose between two distinctly different viewpoints,” Kapstafer said.

Kapstafer is married and has three children. She is a bookkeeper.
