Burned Boy Recovering, Fund Set Up
The Ponderosa Elementary School parent-teacher organization has established a fund to assist Donald, 10, and Shaelenn Davis, 12, who lost their belongings in a basement fire Saturday.
Donald remains in satisfactory condition at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where a team of 10 doctors is treating burns over 20 percent of his body.
“We’re far from home, but in good hands,” said Donald’s mother, Suzanne Davis, Thursday from the hospital. She added that she’s grateful for the support the Post Falls community has shown her family.
Davis expects her son to be at Harborview for at least two more weeks. He is scheduled to undergo skin graft operations on his shoulders next week.
The family’s home on Ponderosa Boulevard in Post Falls sustained an estimated $45,000 damage from smoke and fire. Fire officials believe Donald started the fire while playing with a cigarette lighter.
The children lost bedroom furniture and clothing in the fire. Donald’s teenage brother and stepbrother also lost belongings in the fire. His brothers, sisters and mother’s fiance are staying with relatives in the area.
The PTO started an account for the benefit of the Davis children at WestOne Bank in Post Falls. Donations of clothing and furniture can be dropped off at the Post Falls School District central office.
