Record Sales Spiral Upward
The recording industry continues to spin record numbers as retail music shipments were up 12 percent to $4.8 billion at midyear, according to the latest statistics from the Recording Industry Association of America.
Continuing an upward spiral that began in the mid-1980s, the record business in America also saw unit shipments increase 12 percent on the way to a $10 billion-plus 1994 as the most lucrative holiday period is yet to come.
CDs played the loudest, with shipments jumping 26 percent to 277 million units worth $3.3 billion.
