Jack Dishman Spokane

Memorial service for Jack W. Dishman, longtime Spokane resident, is planned for 11 a.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home.

Mr. Dishman, who died Wednesday, was born in Los Angeles. He was 80.

He and his wife moved to Spokane in 1951. He was a Realtor and owned the former Dishman Building and Realty Co. as well as Dishman Enterprises and Dishman Water Co. His grandfather was Wilton Dishman, who homesteaded in the Spokane Valley in 1889.

Mr. Dishman was a former member of the Valley Kiwanis Club, the Knife and Fork Club, The Spokane Club, the Elks Lodge, the University Club, and the Masonic Lodge, and was on the board of directors of the March of Dimes.

He also was a member of the El Katif Shrine, Royal Order of Jesters Court 65, the El Katif Shrine Arab Patrol, the Spokane Valley Shrine Club, the South Hill Shrine Club and the Manito Golf and Country Club. He was an emeritus member of the board of governors of the Spokane Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children.

Mr. Dishman was one of the original members of the Our Gang Comedy Hour. He played Jackie, for three years, from age 6 to 8.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Elaine Dishman, at home; one daughter, Bonnie Deanne Dishman of Honolulu; and one sister, Virginia Dishman of Tekoa, Wash.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children or to the American Cancer Society.

James Rettkowski Wilbur, Wash.

Service for James G. Rettkowski, 69, is planned for 10 a.m. today at Wilbur Community Presbyterian Church. Graveside service will follow at the Wilbur Cemetery. Strate Funeral Home of Wilbur is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Rettkowski, a lifetime Wilbur resident, died Saturday.

He graduated from Wilbur High School and served in the Navy during World War II. He worked at Vince Martin’s meat locker, for several farmers, and as a school bus driver.

He was employed by the Department of Transportation for 10 years before he took over the family farm. He retired in the late 1980s.

Mr. Rettkowski was a member of Wilbur Community Presbyterian Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6268 in Wilbur, and Wilbur Grange 798. He played Santa Claus in Wilbur for more than 40 years and was active in the Boy Scouts for 57 years.

He is survived by his wife, Jean Rettkowski, at home; two sons, Barry Rettkowski of Spokane and David Rettkowski of Wilbur; one sister, Algene Pfeffer of Spokane; and four grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Boy Scouts of America Inland Northwest Council.

Anna Bell Rhodes Spokane

Service for Anna Ball Rhodes, 67, is planned for 2 p.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home. Private burial will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mrs. Rhodes, a 50-year Spokane resident, died Saturday.

Born in Sandpoint, she was a homemaker.

She was a member of the Church of the First Born.

She is survived by her husband, Frank Rhodes, at home; three daughters, Nancy Wickham, Sally Fred and Susan Bowen, all of Spokane; eight sisters, Rose Seiver of Deer Park, Helen Holbrook of Olympia, Mary Belis, Alice Louderback, Gladas Minty, and Lucy Gasper, all of Sequim, Wash., Ina Sams of Soap Lake, Wash., and Nancy Sams of Spokane; three brothers, David, Enus and Kenneth Bocook, all of Spokane; eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Carl Pettit Spokane

No service will be held for Carl William Pettit. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home was in charge of cremation.

Mr. Pettit, 83, died Thursday.

He was born in Lostant, Ill.

Mr. Pettit served in the Army and was a heavy equipment mechanic. He lived in Spokane for 18 years.

He is survived by one son, Bruce Pettit of Spokane; one daughter, Barbra Pippel of Wenatchee; one brother, Bud Pettit of Caulfield, Mo.; and four grandchildren.

Frances Hubenthal Spokane

Service for Frances E. Hubenthal, 69, will be at 1:30 p.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South. Burial will be at Spokane Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Hubenthal died Saturday.

Born in Almira, Wash., she moved to the Spokane area in the mid-1940s and graduated from Valley (Wash.) High School.

She and her husband lived in Kettle Falls, Wash., for a few years before returning to Spokane in 1956. She worked as a telephone operator on the Broadway exchange and, for 15 years, at J.J. Newberry’s candy counter.

She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Leland Hubenthal, at home; two sons, Leland Hubenthal of Puyallup, Wash., and Gary Hubenthal of Spokane; two brothers, James Wallace of Waitts Lake, Wash., and Charles Wallace of Clarkston, Wash.; one sister, Donna Hafer of Kennewick; three granddaughters and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Spokane.

Fern Schimmels Spokane

Service for Fern E. Schimmels, 81, is planned for 1 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Inurnment will be at Palouse (Wash.) Cemetery at a later date.

Mrs. Schimmels, who died Wednesday, was born in Fenton, Ill.

She lived in Sandpoint and Palouse, Wash., before moving to Spokane in 1947.

A homemaker, she had worked at the Snow White Bakery in Dishman.

Mrs. Schimmels was a former member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and the Coast Guard Auxiliary and was a member of the American Association of Retired Persons.

She is survived by one son, Louis Ray of Spokane; three daughters, Margaret Millar of Spokane, Rose Carper of La Grande, Ore., and Veronica Tierney of Tacoma; one brother, Fred James of Alaska; 21 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

Mary Henrickson Greenacres

Service for Mary M. Henrickson, 97, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home. Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Normal Hill Cemetery in Lewiston.

Mrs. Henrickson, who was born in Freeze, Idaho, died Wednesday.

She was a homemaker and had lived in Spokane for the past 10 years. She previously lived in the Lake Pend Oreille area for more than 30 years.

She was preceded in death by two husbands, Ralph Glass and Stanley Henrickson.

Mrs. Henrickson is survived by three daughters, Rosemary Glass of Glendale, Calif., Ramona Glass, of La Crescenta, Calif., and Wanda Campbell, of Athens, Ga.; one stepdaughter, Sue Goodner of Sandpoint; two brothers, Walter Nolan of Walla Walla and Calvin Nolan of Greenacres; one sister, Esther Fraser of Greenacres; two grandchildren, and numerous stepgrand- and stepgreat-grandchildren.

Memorials to the Spokane Valley Good Samaritan Center.

Evelyn Dicus Palouse, Wash.

Memorial service was held Aug. 5 for Evelyn R. Dicus, 77.

Mrs. Dicus died July 30 of cancer.

Born in Cora, Idaho, she graduated from Garfield (Wash.) High School and Kinman Business College. She worked as a beauty operator in Spokane and Rosalia, Wash.

Mrs. Dicus and her husband lived in Palouse, Wash., and she was a homemaker. In the 1960s she worked for a few years at Washington State University.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Glen Dicus, at home; one son, Gary Dicus of Palouse; one daughter, Salie Anderson of Potlatch, Idaho; four brothers, Paul Anderson of Troy, Idaho, Bill Anderson of Colfax, Wash., Donald Anderson of Lewiston, and Edgar Anderson of Garfield; six sisters, Anna Banka of Newport, Wash., Dorothy Davis of Tillamook, Ore., Edna Leonard of Palouse, and Gladys Anderson, Margaret Frame and Helen Byrne, all of Garfield; and two grandchildren.

Marguerite Buergel Malden, Wash.

Graveside service for Marguerite Buergel, 75, is planned for 10 a.m. today at the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Evergreen Cemetery in Rosalia, Wash. Schanzenbach Funeral Home of Rosalia is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Buergel died Saturday in Spokane.

Born in Malden, Wash., she was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Rosalia and the Milwaukee Women’s Club.

She is survived by her husband, Mark Buergel, at home; one son, Tony Buergel of Rosalia; three daughters, Diane Hill of Rosalia, Marilyn Buergel of Moscow, Idaho, and Linday Buergel of Tigard, Ore.; one brother, three sisters, ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Rosalia Ambulance Fund.

James Horn Bremerton

Service for James H. Horn will be at 11 a.m. today at First Church of the Nazarene. Private burial will follow at Spokane Memorial Gardens. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Horn, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Wednesday in Bremerton.

He worked for the Postal Service and was a member of the chapter and state organizations of the National Association of Letter Carriers and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.

Mr. Horn also was a longtime member of the Nazarene Church.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia Horn, at home; two sons, James Horn Jr. of Tampa, Fla., and Gerry Horn of Twentynine Palms, Calif.; one daughter, DeAnna Harris of Bremerton; one brother, Ernie Horn of Spokane; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

H.J. `Herb’ Murphy Valley, Wash.

Funeral Mass for H. J. “Herb” Murphy, 78, was Monday at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Valley, Wash. Burial was at St. Joseph Cemetery in Jump Off Joe, Wash.

Mr. Murphy, who was born in Toppenish, Wash., died Friday.

He lived in Valley for 16 years and worked as general superintendent for Jeannette Hemlock Mills, a division of Louisiana Pacific, until he retired in 1978.

He operated the Valley Service Station in Valley from 1978 until 1982.

Mr. Murphy is survived by his wife, Opal Murphy, at home; five sons, Carlton Tanner of Stockton, Calif., Tim Murphy of Spokane, Mike Murphy of Valley, and John and Pat Murphy, both of Ketchikan, Alaska; one daughter, Marge McBride of Ellensburg; 18 grandchildren and nine greatgrandchildren.

Wendell Rhudy Deer Park

Service for Wendell E. Rhudy, 80, was Monday at Deer Park United Methodist Church. Cremation preceded.

Mr. Rhudy died Friday.

He was born in Pilger, Neb.

Mr. Rhudy worked as an auto mechanic for nearly 40 years before retiring in the early 1980s.

He was a member of the Deer Park United Methodist Church and was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Alice Rhudy, at home; two sons, Robert Rhudy of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Richard Rhudy of Atherton, Calif.; one brother, Kenneth Rhudy of Spokane; one sister, Greta Armbrust of Spokane; and four grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Deer Park United Methodist Church.

Minnie Kite Deer Park

Memorial service for Minnie Opal Rieckers Kite, 69, was Monday at the Spokane Christian Center. Lauer Funeral Home of Deer Park was in charge of cremation.

Mrs. Kite died Wednesday.

She was born in Addy, Wash.

Mrs. Kite attended Spokane Christian Center and was a homemaker.

She is survived by one son, Russell Johnson of Cheney; three daughters, Leola Atchly of Guntersville, Ala., Margie Shaw of Spokane and Gail Delliskave of Glendale, Ariz.; one brother, John Rieckers of Tucson, Ariz.; four sisters, Mary Engelhardt of Deer Park, Lena Beavers of Sedro Woolley, Wash., Florence Daily of Spokane, and Edna Engelhardt of Wilbur, Wash.; 10 grandchildren and three great-granddaughters.

Madeline Raymond Pullman

No service will be held for E. Madeline Raymond, 72. Kimball Funeral Home in Pullman is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Raymond died Saturday.

She was born in Lewistown, Mont.

Mrs. Raymond attended the University of Montana, where she met her husband, Bruce Raymond. They lived in the Midwest while he served in the military.

They moved to Fort Wayne, Ind., in 1945, and lived in Missoula before moving to Pullman in 1950.

She worked in the academic affairs office at Washington State University and completed her degree in 1972. She retired in 1978.

Mrs. Raymond attended Simpson United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Whitman County Genealogical Society, the Spokane Rose Society and the WSU Retirees.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, at home; one son, Matthew Mulhallan of Seattle; four sisters, Louise Galt of Helena, Joyce Johnson of Lake Stevens, Wash., Ramona Bang of Florida, and Joan Campbell of Corvallis, Mont.; and one brother, Bert Replogle of Nevada.

May Magers Spokane

Memorial service for May L. Dunton Magers, 74, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North. Cremation will precede.

Mrs. Magers died Saturday at Holy Family Hospital.

She was a lifetime Spokane resident.

Mrs. Magers graduated from Lewis and Clark High School and was a coowner and office manager of Cline Dunton Realty for many years.

Her first husband, Cline Dunton, died in 1986.

She is survived by her husband, Wesley Magers, at home; two sons, John Magers of Republic, Wash., and Mark Magers of Cheney; one sister, Grace Bayer of Olympia; three brothers, George Kruse of Spokane, Clare Kruse of Los Altos Hills, Calif., Hank Kruse of Bellevue, Wash.; and two grandsons.
