Martin Gains Pole

Mark Martin won the pole for the Food City 500 by edging Jeff Gordon on the last of 82 laps run during the opening round of time trials at Bristol International Raceway.

Martin’s fast lap of 124.605 mph was .02 seconds faster than the 124.444 by Gordon.

In the Goody’s 250 also at Bristol, David Green edged Spokane native Chad Little, turning in a 122.474 fast lap to gain the pole for today’s race.

Little’s fastest lap was 122.396.
