Lindgren Returns To Spokane To Spearhead Rogers Fund Run
Former distance running star Gerry Lindgren will be in Spokane for the first Rogers High School Gerry Lindgren Fund Run on April 29.
The run features a variety of ways for runners to get pledges for Rogers.
Lindgren, a former world-record holder, state champion in high school for Rogers and NCAA champion for Washington State, will be at the school April 28 for a 9:30 a.m. rally and again for an alumni open house at 7 p.m.

Baseball
The second annual Cardinal Baseball Camp will be Friday and Saturday at Brett James Memorial Field in Post Falls.
The camp is a fund-raiser for the Post Falls American Legion program. Cost is $25. The camp will be divided into two sections: one for young inexperienced players and another for those with more experience.

Basketball
Gonzaga University’s John Rillie was selected to the all-star team last weekend at the 50th annual Western Invitational Tournament in Lewistown, Mont.
Rillie, a GU senior from Toowoomba, Australia, averaged 31 points per game for the Calgary 88’s entry. He also finished second in the tournament’s 3-point shooting contest.
Boise State junior guard Michelle Schultz of Post Falls was the lone Big Sky Conference player honored by the Kodak All-America team. The 5-foot-9 Schultz was named honorable mention after finishing with a 19.9 scoring average, which was tops in the Big Sky and ranked her in the top 40 nationally.
Football
Three members of the San Francisco 49ers are confirmed for a basketball game against the Spokane County D.A.R.E. officers.
49ers scheduled to participate in the April 14 game are Bill Musgrave, Kalus Willsmeyer and Bill McCafrey.
The game is at 7 p.m. at East Valley High School. The cost is $6.50.
Golf
The Ladies Twilight League at The Highlands Golf Course in Post Falls will begin at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday with a wine-and-cheese social at the Clubhouse. Golfing will start April 11 at 4:30 p.m. Info: (208) 773-3673.
Gymnastics
With Brooke Bishop finishing second in the allaround and Lindsay Brandle third, the Spokane Elite Gymnastics team finished first in a recent meet and qualified for the state meet in Tacoma next weekend.
Bishop was first in the floor exercises and Brandle was second on the bars and third in vault. Other team members are Tara Hulbert, Jaime Brunner and Gail Larsen.
Shooting
Four members of the Cheney American Legion Rifle Club qualified for invitations to shoot at the U.S. International Shooting Championships in August.
At the preliminary tryouts, Stephanie Goeden, Christopher Howser, Rachael Westergren and Hatti Ponti qualified with .22 rifles. Goeden, Westergren and Ponti also qualified in with air rifles.
The USISC are a qualifying step for World Cup and Olympic shooting.
Volleyball
The Inland Empire USVBA elite volleyball team coached by Art and Mary Jo Lambert, formed three years ago, took fourth out of 64 teams last weekend in the Colorado Crossroads tournament. Inland Empire earned a berth to the nationals in Florida in June.
This year’s team: Brandy Barratt, junior, Gonzaga Prep; Jessica Sanborn, sophomore, Mead; Erica Migliore, senior, Lewis and Clark; Robin Phipps, senior, Ritzville; Kirsten Krulitz, senior, Wallace; Joy Sperry, junior, Wallace; Jenny Owen, junior, Lake City; Tiwi Bond, junior, Sandpoint; Staci Moline, junior, Sandpoint; Eanna Aaron, junior, Bonners Ferry; and Haley Scofield, junior, Clark Fork.
Barratt, Sperry and Phipps were invited to try out for the USA Youth National Volleyball.
