Silver Lanes Open Attracts Top Women From Northwest

Some of the top women’s bowlers in the Northwest will be joined by one of the most promising rookies on the Ladies Pro Bowlers Tour at the second annual Silver Lanes Open Saturday and Sunday.

Darris Street, 26, from Fresno, Calif., won cash in four of her first six events on the Sam’s Town LPBT. She ranks 20th in scoring (205.16 average) and 23rd in money won ($4,737).

She’ll face a challenge from more than two dozen Northwest women, several of whom have spent time on the LPBT, including former Spokanite Laurie Yucho of Portland and Donna Jameson of Everett.

Tourney director Matt Surina noted other contenders likely will include Cindy Whiteman, Portland; Paula Hendzel, Coeur d’Alene; Willie Hainsworth, Idaho Falls; Darla Speer, Brush Prairie, Wash.; LuAnn Moore, Tacoma; and Julie Heath, Sandy Reynolds, Kathy Thomas, Stacy Jarrett and Keree Jens, all of Spokane.

The bowlers begin practicing at 1 p.m. Saturday, with the first six qualifying games beginning at 1:30. A celebrity pro-am will begin at 6:30.

Sunday’s action begins at 9 a.m., with the top eight advancing to the finals at noon.

Winter sports

Lookout Pass will be buzzing this weekend with the Race the Face snowmobile hillclimb.

With competition in stock, pro stock and modified categories and the payback 80 percent of the entry money, organizers expect a full field of 200 sleds. The format will be timed head-to-head competition.

Races begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday. The top 25 percent in each class and category advance to Sunday’s finals beginning at 9 a.m., using the same format.
