Jesse Baldwin Coeur d’Alene

At his request, no service is planned for Jesse W. Baldwin, 69. Mr. Baldwin died Thursday at Coeur d’Alene Convalescent Center. Yates Funeral Homes is in charge of the arrangements.

He was born in Meridian, Miss., and grew up and attended school in Charleston, N.C.

Mr. Baldwin was in the Navy during World War II. He married Claudia Morice in 1946 and they settled in Bonners Ferry, Idaho. He moved to the Coeur d’Alene area in 1963 and, after more than 24 years of service, retired from the Idaho Transportation Department.

Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Sandra Doyle of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and nine brothers and sisters.

Zella Lee Spokane

Graveside service for Zella Lee, 91, will be at 9 a.m. Monday at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. at Millwood Presbyterian Church. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Lee, a 65-year resident of Spokane, died Tuesday. She was born in Mount Vernon, Ore., and graduated from the University of Oregon School of Music. She taught in Enterprise Ore., Odessa, Wash., and West Valley School District in Spokane.

She was a member of Martha and Magnolia Chapters of Order of the Eastern Star, the Daughters of the Nile, the Retired Teachers Association, the Orchard Avenue Women’s Club and Millwood Presbyterian Church.

Her husband, Leslie Lee, preceded her in death. She is survived by two daughters, Patricia Lee of Sackville, New Brunswick, and Margaret Fea of Eugene, Ore.; seven grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Everett Trotachaud Hemet, Calif.

Service for Everett V. Trotachaud, 93, was held Wednesday at Harford Funeral Home in Hemet. Burial was at San Jacinto Valley Cemetery.

Mr. Trotachaud, a former Spokane resident, died March 31.

He was born in Iron River, Wis., and moved to Coeur d’Alene with his family when he was four. He once worked as a firefighter on the river steamboat Georgie Oaks, on the St. Joe River.

He lived in Eugene, Ore., for five years, where he worked as an apprentice printer and later worked as a journeyman printer in Butte, Mont. He went to work for The Spokesman-Review and Spokane Chronicle in 1929 and retired in 1962.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Hazel Trotachaud of Hemet; and one daughter, Delyn Elia of Kennewick.

Donald Sands Colville, Wash.

Service for Donald O. Sands, 89, is planned for 2 p.m. Monday at Ione (Wash.) Seventh-day Adventist Church with burial to follow at Metaline (Wash.) Cemetery. Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Sands, who was born in Republic, Wash., died Tuesday.

He and his wife had lived in Metaline for nearly 60 years. He worked for the Forest Service and for Lehigh Portland cement.

He was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Phyllis Beam of Metaline and Donna Favor of Coeur d’Alene; one son, Guy Sands of Glide, Ore.; one sister, Mary Walter of Newman Lake; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Ione.

Jessie Martin Spokane

Graveside service for Jessie Anne (Mitchell) Martin, 90, was held Friday at Spokane Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Martin died Monday at St. Brendan Care Center.

She was born in Sprague, Wash., and attended schools in Oroville, Wash. She moved to Spokane in 1924 and she and her husband, Aaron Martin, owned and operated Aaron’s Tavern and Sporting Goods for more than 35 years. Mr. Martin died in 1981.

Survivors include one daughter, Shirley Hagle, and one son, Fred “Bud” Martin, both of Spokane; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Brendan Nursing Home.

Jonathan Wolff Spokane

Service for Jonathan Wolff, 87, is set for 11 a.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home. Burial will follow in North Dakota where he was born.

Mr. Wolff, who died Wednesday, had lived in Spokane for 20 years. He previously lived in Othello and Ritzville, Wash. He was a homebuilder.

He was a member of the Sons of Norway Lodge and played the accordion for senior citizens groups.

He is survived by his wife of 13 years, Vera Wolff; two daughters, Almeda Bruss of Spokane and Luella Bradley of Sun City, Ariz.; two stepdaughters, Sheila LaRue of Nine Mile Falls and Kristina Sutton of Renton, Wash.; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Westside Church of the Nazarene.

Larry Kerns Liberty Lake

Service for Larry L. Kerns, 56, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Pines Cemetery.

Mr. Kerns, who died Wednesday, was born in Osceola, Iowa.

He had lived in Spokane for 14 years and managed artistic towing for 13 years.

He was vice president of the Sunrise East Lions Club. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Eighth Ward and the Washington State Tow Truck Association.

Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Sharon Horton Kerns; three sons, Thomas and Larry Kerns, both of Sacramento, Calif., and Daniel Kerns of Spokane; one daughter, Cherie Kerns of Oklahoma; one brother, Lyle Kerns of Spokane; and one grandson.

Memorial contributions may be made to Habitat for Humanity or International.

Nellie Smith Spokane

Memorial service for Nellie Kincaid Smith, 95, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home. Private inurnment will be at Pines Cemetery.

Born in Sunset, Wash., Mrs. Smith died March 28.

She graduated from high school in Sunset and owned and operated the Colville (Wash.) Bakery for 25 years. She retired in 1974 and moved to Spokane.

She was a member of Jehovah’s Witnesses Opportunity Kingdom Hall.

She is survived by one son, Terry Kincaid of San Diego; two daughters, Lorraine Sullivan and Shirley Elings, both of Liberty Lake; one sister, Catherine Parrish of Palouse, Wash.; 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

John O’Reilly Chattaroy

Graveside service for John B. O’Reilly, 72, is planned for 2 p.m. today at Lewis-Clark Memorial Gardens, Lewiston. Malcolm’s Brower-Wann Funeral Home of Lewiston is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. O’Reilly, who died Saturday, was born in Lewiston and grew up in Harvard, Idaho. He attended school there.

He worked in the woods and was employed by Potlatch Corporation and Bennett Lumber Company. He married Eileen Spence in 1952.

After living most of his life in Idaho, he moved to Chattaroy in 1993.

His wife died in 1973.

Survivors include two brothers, Richard O’Reilly of Princeton, Idaho, and Pat O’Reilly of Columbus, Ohio; and two sisters, Marjorie Verstegen of Milwaukee, Wis., and Kay Schneider of Chattaroy.

Peter Dolan Spokane

Funeral Mass for Peter I. Dolan, 74, will be at 8:30 a.m. today at St. Peter Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Dolan, a 50-year Spokane resident, died Wednesday.

He was born in Webster, N.D., and was a carpenter in the construction industry.

He was a member of the Carpenters Union Local No. 98, St. Peter Catholic Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 51, the Military of Cooties Pup Tent No. 5, the Disabled American Veterans Chapter No. 6 and the Eagles Lodge No. 2. He had served in the Army during World War II.

He is survived by three brothers, William Dolan of Lewistown, Mont., Nicholas Dolan of Scappoose, Ore., and Terry Dolan of Baker, Ore.; three sisters, Ruth Harrison of LaCenter, Wash., and Jane Langan and Ursula Longie, both of Spokane.

Mildred Lyons Vancouver, Wash.

Service for Mildred C. Lyons, 89, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport, Wash. Burial will follow at Newport Cemetery.

Mrs. Lyons, a former Newport and Spokane resident, died Tuesday in Hillsboro, Ore., at a care facility.

She was born in Merrill, Wis., and graduated from high school in Newport.

She moved to Spokane and worked at the Davenport Hotel. In 1983 she moved to the Vancouver area.

Mrs. Lyons was a member of Central Christian Church in Spokane.

Her husbands, George Gibbons and Floyd Lyons both preceded her in death.

She is survived by one son, Don Gibbons of Beaverton, Ore.; one daughter, Beverly Bergau of Vancouver; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Ralph Maron Spokane

Funeral Mass for Ralph L. Maron, 71, will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paschal Catholic Church with burial at Holy Cross Cemetery. HennesseySmith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Maron, who died Tuesday, was born in Chewelah, Wash.

He had lived in Spokane for 50 years. He worked at Ideal Cement as a kiln burner for 22 years and retired from Burlington Northern after 15 years.

He served in the Army during World War II and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 51 and American Legion Post No. 9.

He is survived by one son, John Maron, and one daughter, Barbara Ohmann, both of Spokane; two brothers, Robert Maron of Spokane and Donald Maron of Milwaukee, Wis.; one sister, Bettie Maron of Mead; and two grandchildren.

Elma Jurgens Deer Park

Service for Elma Mae Jurgens, 88, is set for 3 p.m. today at Open Door Congregational Church in Deer Park. Burial will be at Woodland Cemetery in Deer Park. Lauer Funeral Home, Deer Park, is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Jurgens, a longtime Deer Park and Williams Valley resident, died Thursday. She was born in Nez Perce, Idaho.

She and her husband, Ernest Jurgens, were dairy ranchers in the Williams Valley area west of Deer Park, and were wheat ranchers in the Four Mounds area near Nine Mile Falls. Her husband died in 1983.

She was a member of Clayton Community Church, the Williams Valley Grange and the Deer Park Senior Citizens.

She is survived by four sons, Ervin Jurgens of Kamiah, Idaho, Raymond Jurgens of Deer Park, Dean Jurgens of Lewiston and Kenneth Jurgens of Atlanta, Ga.; two daughters, Lois Rumley of Colville, Wash., and Joann Holliday of Federal Way, Wash.; one sister, Gracie Troxel of California; 21 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
