Soccer Team Bankrupt

Compiled From Wire Services

A court placed Olympique Marseille in receivership after the scandal-plagued former European soccer champions ran out of money to pay its players and was $48 million in debt.

The decision was the latest blow to the team, relegated to second division this season because of a bribery scandal in 1993. The scandal has also forced its owner and politician Bernard Tapie to divest himself of the team.
