Demand For Beef Imports Rising

Associated Press

World demand for beef imports will rise significantly this year, driven in part by a big jump in demand by Russia, the Agriculture Department said.

The department forecast Russian Federation imports at 500,000 metric tons, up from a preliminary estimate of 370,000 metric tons in 1994. In all, it forecast global import demand for beef and veal at 5.9 million metric tons, compared with 5.5 million metric tons in 1994.
