Willard’s Gene Wooley Principal Of The Year

Gene Wooley, principal of Willard Elementary School, is recipient of the 1994-95 Spokane Area Elementary School Principal of the Year award. He has been in education for 32 years, the last 21 years as principal in Spokane. He now becomes the Spokane area’s outstanding principal nominee for state honors.

The Legal Foundation of Washington recently announced the recipients of The Goldmark Equal Access to Justice Internships. The foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing equal access to the civil justice system by funding legal and education programs for low-income people. Kevin Diaz has been selected for a position with the Legal Services Programs of Washington. He is a second-year law student at the University of Washington. Melinda Foster has been selected for a position with the legal assistance family law program, Gonzaga University School of Law. She is a second-year law student at Gonzaga University School of Law.

Jessica Gibson, age 5, has been chosen as a state finalist in the Miss Washington American Princess pageant to be held in September in Seattle. She is the daughter of Jeff and Joie Gibson, Spokane.

Michael Morris has been elected student body vice president at Washington State University. A graduate of Colville High School, he is a senior political science major and son of Charles and Jeri Morris, Colville.

David Auerbach, a science teacher for grades 7-12 at Wellpinit Public Schools, has been awarded a fellowship to work in the laboratory of Gonzaga University associate biology Professor Peter Pauw this summer. The program aims to improve pre-college science education by providing teachers with authentic science research experiences coupled with follow-up support. Auerbach will be involved in a project to characterize the differentiation of skeletal muscle cells, and will learn a range of biological techniques including fluorescence microscopy, gel electrophoresis, and immunoblotting.

Elinor Nuxoll has been chosen the 1995 Lilac Poet by the Poetry Scribes of Spokane. She will read her winning poetry at a luncheon put on by past presidents of Garden Clubs of Spokane in May. She has been a member since 1980 and is now serving her second year as secretary.
