Amber Shelly and Charisse Oyolokor presented their curbside recycling project at the Symposium for Environment and Education, sponsored by Wheelabrator Environmental Systems Inc. and the Christa McAuliffe Planetarium Foundation.

The girls, with help from classmates, have conducted a citizen survey in an attempt to gauge local interest and support for curbside recycling. Cheney has a recycling center but no curbside service.

They are analyzing the cost of starting and maintaining a program and have talked to local experts on the issue.

Lynne Hueber, a senior at Mead High School, was awarded a Certificate of Merit on behalf of the Century III Leaders Program in Washington state. She is the daughter of Dennis and Diane Hueber, Spokane.
