Ap Corrects Fish Story: Anglers Can Fish For All Salmon Except Chinook

Associated Press

The Associated Press erroneously reported Friday that sport fishermen would be able to catch chinook salmon this year off the coast from Leadbetter Point, Wash., to Cape Falcon, Ore.

All salmon except chinook may be caught in the area, with a quota of two fish per day. The season runs Sundays through Thursdays beginning July 24 and ending Sept. 28 or when 28,125 coho are caught. No more than four fish in seven consecutive days may be caught. The fishery is closed within three miles of shore.

The AP story also omitted the sport fishery for the coast from Cape Falcon south to Humbug Mountain. In that area, all salmon except coho may be caught, with a two-fish-perday limit, from May 1 through June 30. No more than six fish may be caught in seven days.

The season may resume in the fall in state waters.

The West Coast seasons were set at last week’s Pacific Fishery Management Council meeting.
