Service for five members of a Russian family who died Friday in a Bellingham house fire will be held at noon Friday at Berean Bible Church, 10910 E. Boone. Burial will follow at Pines Cemetery in the Spokane Valley.

The service will be in Russian.

Vyacheslav Anatolyevich Solodyankin, 36, was born in Meshdyrechenk, Russia. A high school graduate, he worked as a machinist in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, before emigrating to Spokane and the United States last year.

His wife, Yelena Mihaylovna Solodyankin, 35, was born in Kemerovo, Russia. She attended four years of college and worked as a dress designer in Bishkek.

Their children, Valeria Vyacheslavovna Solodyankin, 14; Vyacheslav Vyacheslavovich Solodyankin, 6; and Alina Vyacheslavovna Solodyankin, 1, were born in Bishkek.

The Solodyankins were members of Light of the Gospel Church, where Vyacheslav was a deacon.

They are survived by Vyacheslav’s parents, Anatoliy and Mariya Solodyankin of Spokane; Yelena’s parents, Mikhail and Nina Lyahov of Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan; and five children, Olena, Timofey, Olesya, Tatyana and Ivan, all of Spokane. There are also numerous relatives in Spokane, Russia and Kyrgyzstan.

Memorial contributions may be made to Light of the Gospel Church.

Bernard King Pinehurst, Idaho

Memorial service for Bernard “Barney” Floyd King, a logger and miner, will be held at 4 p.m. Friday at Kellogg Funeral Chapel. Shoshone Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. King, who died Tuesday at Shoshone Medical Center, Kellogg, was born in 1918 in Medicine Lake, Mont.

He’d worked at Continental Mine and for Great Northern Railroad before he was drafted into the Army for two years. After his discharge in 1942, he worked as a logger, a miner and at the Bunker Hill Smelter. He retired in 1971.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

He was a member of the Bunker Hill Club and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors include one sister, Marguerite Cordes of Hayden Lake, Idaho; one sister-in-law, Sybil King of Pinehurst; one brother-in-law, Charles Atkins of Bonners Ferry, Idaho; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Elizabeth Mortenson Spokane

Funeral liturgy for Elizabeth P. Mortenson, 80, is set for 1 p.m. today at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with burial at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Mortenson, who was born in Barcelona, Spain, died Tuesday.

A homemaker, she had been a Girl Scout leader and participated in a bowling league.

She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, the Sons of Norway, and had lived here for 48 years.

Her husband, Marvin Mortenson, died in November.

She is survived by four daughters, Marie Martin of Deer Park, and Patricia Mayo, Gloria Swain and Suzie Patterson, all of Spokane; one son, Bill Mortenson of Spokane; one sister Evelyn Hillstad of Spokane; 12 grandchildren and 16 greatgrandchildren.

Jerome Murray, S.J. Spokane

Graveside service for Jerome J. Murray, S.J., 81, will be at 10 a.m. today at Mount St. Michael Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Fr. Murray died Tuesday.

He was born in Butte, Mont., and entered the Society of Jesus in 1931 in Sheridan, Ore.

He was ordained a priest in San Francisco in 1944 and except, for one year at St. Louis University, Fr. Murray taught mathematics at Gonzaga University from 1948 until 1971.

After teaching, Fr. Murray spent time as a parish priest and was pastor of St. Stanislaus in Lewiston. He later worked as a chaplain in hospitals in Washington, Idaho, Oregon and Montana.

He is survived by two sisters, Margaret Erickson and Mary Murray, both of Butte; and one brother, Daniel Murray of Missouri.

Eileen Fry Colfax, Wash.

Service for Eileen (Sem) Fry, 51, will be at 2 p.m. today at Colfax First Baptist Church. Burial will be at Colfax Cemetery. Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Fry died Saturday.

She was born in Kellogg and graduated from high school there.

She and her husband, Daryl Fry, lived in Kellogg and moved to Colfax in 1965. She went to work for the McGregor Co. in 1987.

She was a member of the Colfax Ladies Elks and the Parvin Grange.

She is survived by her husband of 33 years, Daryl Fry; one son, Loren Fry of Spokane; one daughter, Tammy Fry of Colfax; one sister, Anna Marie West of Yakima; and one granddaughter.

Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children or Southeast Washington Home Health and Hospice.

Emil Stoebner Spokane

Service for Emil Stoebner, 96, will be at 1 p.m. today at Emmanuel Lutheran Church. Burial will be Spokane Memorial Gardens. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Stoebner, a Spokane resident since 1947, died Friday.

He was born in Eureka, S.D., and was a schoolteacher. He was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Malita Stoebner; two sons, Donald Stoebner of Thousand Oaks, Calif., and Robert Stoebner of Deer Park; four brothers, Edward, Otto, Eugene and Bill Stoebner; one sister, Emma Weisenburger; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Violet Ramsey Atwater, Calif.

Service for Violet Ramsey, 86, former Spokane resident, will be today in California. Wilson Family Funeral Chapel in Atwater is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Ramsey, who died Monday, was born in Manitoba.

She and her husband, Earl Ramsey, a dentist, had lived in Spokane since 1930. He died in 1975 and she moved to Atwater in 1991.

In Spokane, Mrs. Ramsey was a member of the Rose Society and Moose Auxiliary.

Survivors include one niece in Atwater.

Roy Haase Cheney

Graveside service for Roy Eugene Haase, 49, will be at 1:30 p.m. today at Spokane Memorial Gardens. Cheney Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Haase, who died Monday, was born in Ritzville, Wash.

He worked as a hod carrier for more than 30 years in Spokane and the surrounding area.

He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Dorothy and Fred Peterson of Cheney; one sister, Betty Goude of Kennewick; and one brother, Walter Fifield of Imlay, Nev.

Bertha ‘Patsy’ Hogan Anchorage, Alaska

Memorial service for Bertha “Patsy” Hogan, 98, will be today at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Anchorage.

Mrs. Hogan, a former Spokane resident, died Friday.

She was born in Carver County, Minn.

She had lived in Spokane for 12 years and moved to Anchorage two years ago. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include two sons, James and Larry Hogan, both of Spokane; two daughters, Patricia of Anchorage and Linda, of Scotts Valley, Calif.; 13 grandchildren and 13 greatgrandchildren.

Eva Lewis Spokane

Service for Eva M. Lewis, 79, will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Riplinger Funeral Home. Graveside service is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday at Fairmount Cemetery in Pullman.

Mrs. Lewis, who was born in Washtucna, Wash., died Sunday.

She graduated from Rogers High School and was a homemaker.

A longtime Spokane resident, she also had lived for 30 years at Badger Lake as co-owner of the Lewis Brothers Resort.

Mrs. Lewis returned to Spokane about 1 years ago.

Her husband, Orville Lewis, died in 1984.

She is survived by one son, Gary Lewis of Danville, Calif.; six grandchildren and seven greatgrandchildren.

Kenneth Abbey Powell, Wyo.

Graveside service for Kenneth Earl Abbey, a former Washington State University administrator, is set for 4 p.m. Friday at Greenwood Memorial Terrace, Spokane. English Funeral Chapel, Coeur d’Alene, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Abbey, 61, died Sunday at his son’s home in Coeur d’Alene.

He was born in Spokane and graduated from North Central High School. He received a bachelor’s and master’s degree from the University of Washington and later studied at the University of Oregon.

He served in the Army Signal Corps from 1953-55.

He worked at WSU from 1968-90 as assistant vice-president. For the past five years he served as dean of administration at Northwest College, Powell, Wyo.

He was a member of the National Association of Amateur Oarsmen, the Western Intercollegiate Crew Coaches Association, the Clearwater Economic Development Council, the Whitman County Regional Planning Council, the Pullman Planning Commission and the Pullman-Moscow Water Resources Committee.

Survivors include one son, Nelson Abbey of Coeur d’Alene; two daughters, Shannon Abbey of San Francisco, Calif., and Erin Abbey of Seattle; one sister, Beverly Black of Beaverton, Ore.

Gordon Kramer Tum Tum, Wash.

Memorial service for Gordon A. Kramer, 67, is set for 11 a.m Saturday at Scotts Valley Cemetery in Tum Tum. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Kramer, who died Friday, was born in Minneapolis.

He was a well driller and had lived in Tum Tum for 21 years.

He was a World War II and Korean Army veteran and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter No. 45.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Dolores “Nip” Kramer; four sons, Kirk, Kent, Tim and Tracy, and two daughters, Karla and Tami, all of Tum Tum.; one sister, Lorene of Minnesota; two brothers, Bart of Portland and Clair of Wisconsin; 11 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Jack McBride Colfax, Wash.

Service for Jack McBride, 82, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax. Inurnment will be held at a later date.

Mr. McBride, who died Monday from cancer, was born on the family farm south of Potlatch, Idaho.

He and his wife, Joyce McBride, farmed near Potlatch until 1959. They lived in Plummer, Idaho, and then moved to Moscow, Idaho, where Mr. McBride managed the state liquor store. After he retired, they moved back to the farm in Potlatch. They returned to Colfax last month.

He was a member of the Kennedy Ford Grange, the Moscow Elks Lodge and the Potlatch Masonic Lodge. He had also served as state senator from Latah County in the 1950s.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years; two sons, Richard and Edward McBride, both of Colfax; one sister, Bobbie Nygaard of Potlatch; and five grandchildren.

Lois Young Spokane

No service will be held for Lois M. Young, 80, at her request. HennesseySmith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Young, who died Saturday, was born in Denver.

A homemaker, she had lived in Spokane for 17 years.

Her husband, Frank Young, died in 1976.

She is survived by three grandchildren, Lynn Gumenberg of Great Falls, Mont, and Dale Ferrall III and Scott Ferrall, both of Battle Creek, Mich.; and five great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, the Northwest Kidney Foundation or the Leukemia Society of America Inc.

Marjorie Clark Coeur d’Alene

Memorial service for Marjorie W. Clark, homemaker, artist and golfer, will be held at St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church, Palm Desert, Calif. Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d’Alene, is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Clark, 87, died Thursday at Kootenai Medical Center after a short illness.

She was born in 1907 in Deposit, New York, and graduated from Dwight School in New Jersey.

After the death of her husband of 55 years, Henry, she moved to Coeur d’Alene from Palm Desert, Calif.

Survivors include two sons, Henry Clark Jr. of Denver, Colo., and Peter Clark of Deer Lake, Wash.; eight grandchildren and 13 greatgrandchildren.

George Bell Spokane

Private service for George M. Bell, 81, is planned for a later date. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Bell, a law professor and labormanagement arbitrator, died Friday of heart failure.

He was born in Logan, Utah.

He graduated from Utah State University in 1935 and received his doctorate from George Washington University in Washington, D.C., in 1940.

He began teaching at the University of Idaho in 1949 as an associate professor of law. He obtained a full professorship in 1955.

He had lived in Spokane for the past 17 years and taught part time at Gonzaga University Law School and the University of Idaho. He was also an arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association.

His first wife, Maurine Bell, died in 1975.

He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Gene Edgren; three sons, George Bell of Sunnyvale, Calif., Steve Bell of Coeur d’Alene and Stewart Bell of San Gabriel, Calif.; one brother, Richard Bell of Charlottesville, Va.; and three grandchildren.

Marion Carr Jr. Pullman

No service will be held for Marion E. Carr Jr., at his request. Kramer Funeral Home of Palouse, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Carr, 79, died Friday at the Moscow (Idaho) Care Center, where he had lived since September.

He was born in Los Angeles.

Mr. Carr and his wife, Eloise, lived in the Wenatchee Valley, where he worked as a carpenter, from 1948 until 1960. In 1960 they moved to Pullman, and he worked as a carpenter for Washington State University.

He retired in the 1980s.

He was a member of the Carpenters Union.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years; one son, Edward Carr, and one daughter, Jene McCleary, both of Lewiston; one brother, Niles Carr of San Diego; and two sisters, Geraldine Freeman of San Dimas, Calif., and Norma Glass of Winchester, Calif.

Edna Pratt Spokane

No service will be held for Edna Virginia Pratt, 85, at her request.

Mrs. Pratt, an 80-year Spokane resident, died Friday.

She was born in Kettle Falls, Wash.

She had worked for Washington Water Power for 20 years.

Survivors include three sons, Jim and Bill Pratt, both of Spokane, and Steve Pratt of Olympia; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Marion Aust Spokane

No service will be held for Marion J. Aust, 87. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home in in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Aust died Sunday.

She was born in Drake, N.D.

She had lived in Spokane for 73 years and was a member of Order of Eastern Star.

She is survived by one son, Paul Aust of Spokane.
