The Philadelphia Eagles confirmed they have reached a contract agreement with offensive tackle Joe Sims, 26, who played the last three seasons with the Green Bay Packers.

Sims is expected to sign a two-year, $1.325 million deal this week, at which time the Eagles are expected to make their new addition official.

Veteran cornerback Otis Smith ran a 4.47-second 40-yard dash as part of an excellent workout for the New York Jets. A short while later, Smith was agreeing to a two-year, $1.1 million contract with the Jets that includes a signing bonus of $100,000.

Smith was a surprising early release by the Eagles after going unclaimed in the NFL expansion draft, due primarily to his $600,000 salary-cap figure.
