‘Buddies’ Yanked From Lineup
Strange doings at the top-rated network. For the second time in as many months, ABC has shelved a show that had already been given an airdate.
“Buddies,” a new sitcom from the team that brought us “Home Improvement,” was unexpectedly yanked from the schedule this week. The heavily promoted sitcom was to have premiered Tuesday at 9:30 p.m. and air three weeks in a row. Instead, ABC and Wind Dancer Productions said in a statement Tuesday that “the producers have decided to reshoot the pilot.”
Apparently the producers didn’t think there was good comic chemistry between co-stars Jim Breuer and David Chappelle. So Breuer is out.
“Buddies” will be developed for next season, ABC said.
What will air instead? Reruns of “Roseanne” and “Ellen.”
Hampton Jazz Fest report
CBS “Sunday Morning” will air on Easter a report on Lionel Hampton and the University of Idaho’s Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival.
A network crew spent four days at the 1995 Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival, interviewing organizers, jazz artists and student competitors. According to Lucy Scott, “Sunday Morning” producer, the report centers on the relationship between Hampton and the UI and the effort to pass on the legacy of jazz music to young musicians.
The show airs at 8 a.m. on KREMChannel 2.
