Rowe Tops Pba Qualifiers

Canada’s Bill Rowe went 7-1 in match play and leads an international field of 24 bowlers in a qualifier for the PBA’s $300,000 Brunswick World Tournament of Champions.

Rowe, who out-averaged the field by 20 pins in round one, totaled 2,195 pins and took a 151-pin lead into round two Sunday night.

Yoshimi Kitaoka of Japan won all eight of his matches to remain within striking distance at 2,044.

Pat Healey of the United States went 6-2 and is third at 2,011. Healey, the U.S. national amateur champion, recently won four gold medals at the Pan American Games.

The top five players in the field of 24 after round three today qualify for the 64-man field in the Brunswick World Tournament of Champions. The other 59 players are past PBA champions.
