Student Delegates Selected To Represent Cooperative
Seven high school students have been selected to represent Kootenai Electric Cooperative as delegates to the Idaho Cooperative Utilities Association Youth Rally. The event will be held July 10-15 at Schweitzer Mountain in Sandpoint. Delegates will compete for scholarships and an opportunity to attend the National Rural Electric Cooperative Youth Rally in Washington, D.C.
They are Jennifer Hayes, Gonzaga Preparatory School; Casey Kelly, Kathy Moore, Lindsay Taggart and Mandy White, all of Lake City High School; and Joni Miller and Kim Pearson, both of Coeur d’Alene High School.
Heather Beeks of Lake City High School returns from the 1994 rally, elected by her peers to serve as a director this year. Heather Griffiths of Coeur d’Alene will represent Kootenai Electric at the National Youth Rally in Washington, D.C., this summer. She was also awarded a $500 college scholarship.
Thirteen Wallace High School students recently attended the Business Professionals of America State Conference and Competition in Boise.
The following students earned awards or certificates: Don Hulsizer, 10th in Spreadsheet Application; Angela Bailey, sixth in Desktop Publishing; Melissa Jacobs, 10th in Computerized Accounting; and Courtney Drake (historian), ninth in Yearbook.
The following students qualified high enough in events to join over 4,000 others from across the country in national-level business skill competitions. The gathering will also feature workshops, general sessions and the national officer candidate campaign and elections. The event happens May 4-7 in Nashville, Tenn. Those students are: Ginza Hulsizer, third in Computerized Accounting (qualifying event), and 10th in Financial Specialist; Camille Mongelli, 80 percent or above in Business Math (qualifying event), second in Financial Specialist (qualifying event), and sixth in Computerized Accounting; and Rena Rapp, 80 percent or above in Proofreading/Editing (qualifying event).
Coeur d’Alene winners of Merit Awards in the 1995 American History Essay contest are Megan Taggart, an eighth grader at Lakes Middle School, and Hillary Chisholm, a fifth grader at Ramsey Elementary School. The contest is sponsored by the Lt. George Farragut Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution. These essays have been sent on the Idaho State DAR to be considered for state competition. The topic of this year’s essay is “Living in America in Colonial Days, 1607-1776.”
