Lake City Soccer Coach, Eisenwinter, To Leave Post
Coeur d’Alene’s most successful prep soccer coach has resigned to spend more time developing youth teams.
Lake City High boys and girls coach Bill Eisenwinter gave school officials his resignation Thursday, effective at the end of the boys’ season. He announced his resignation Monday.
Eisenwinter will focus his attention as head coach of the sprawling Lake City Sting Soccer Club.
“It’s a regretful decision, but it’s one I had to make,” Eisenwinter, 29, said. “The main reason for the decision is quality of life. It’s been too stressful doing both. The club has gotten so big that I don’t really think I’ve had an impact there.”
Eisenwinter took over the Sting program in 1992. He oversees 19 boys and girls teams, ranging from U-11 to U-19.
The Sting teams feed the local high school teams. Fifteen years ago, the competitive program had 25 players. Today, there are nearly 300.
Eisenwinter coached two years at Coeur d’Alene High before moving to Lake City last fall. The Vikings boys won a state title in 1993 and he coached consecutive state runner-up girls teams.
Last fall, the Timberwolves boys and girls each finished third at state.
His combined three-year coaching record at CdA schools is 91-12-6. His current T-Wolves boys team is 7-0-2 and face their second league showdown with rival CdA today at 5 p.m.
“I’m going to miss the kids, miss the contact with the players day in and day out,” Eisenwinter said. “It’s been very enjoyable.”
Eisenwinter’s ultimate goal is to land a college coaching job. He applied recently for the Gonzaga University men’s position.
Eisenwinter is a fourth-year Region IV assistant for the U-15 girls team, which is selected from players in 14 Western states. He is one of 1,000 soccer coaches nationally who have attained an A level license, which is the highest ranking possible.
