Second Man On Trial For Screwdriver Attack

From Staff And Wire Reports

Opening statements began Monday in the attempted murder trial of the second man accused in a screwdriver attack that left a former Idaho woman disabled.

Remus G. Jordan, 23, of Seattle is charged with attempted first-degree murder, kidnapping and first-degree robbery in the May 7, 1994, attack on Connie Freeburn, said Dan Donohoe, spokesman for the King County prosecutor’s office.

The woman was abducted as she left her car and walked to her home in Seattle.

She was robbed, raped and stabbed 25 times with a screwdriver. The weapon was plunged into her brain and she was left for dead. She was 27 at the time of the attack.

After a period in a coma, Freeburn was returned to her family home in Boise to recover.

She is still undergoing rehabilitation for brain damage, Donohoe said.

The first man, Kevin Smith, pleaded guilty to attempted murder, kidnapping, rape and robbery charges and was sentenced in December to 100 years in prison.
