Spawning Project Done At Oxbow

From Staff And Wire Reports

Idaho Power Co. says it has reached its quota of spring steelhead eggs collected at two hatcheries, and fish trapping has stopped at the Hells Canyon Dam downstream from the Oxbow hatchery.

Idaho Power operates spawning programs at Oxbow and on the Pahsimeroi River in central Idaho as part of mitigation requirements to offset environmental impacts of its hydroelectric dams.

The spawning projects will result in about 2 million steelhead smolts released each year into the Pahsimeroi, Snake and upper Salmon rivers.
