Kiwanis Sponsor Immunizations

From Staff And Wire Reports

To kick off National Infant Immunization Week, the Panhandle Kiwanis are sponsoring a children’s immunization clinic Saturday at the Panhandle Health District, 2195 Ironwood Court.

A “surprise character,” gift coupons and a name-drawing for special prizes will make the visit more pleasant for children. The Kiwanis also are making child identification cards for participants who want them.

The clinic will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Visits cost $5 each, but no one will be denied shots because of an inability to pay.

Parents are asked to bring shot records.

Children need to be protected against serious childhood diseases, such as whooping cough, polio and measles, before the age of 2, according to health professionals.

North Idaho businesses and civic groups are helping with a statewide Vaccinate the Gem State campaign to raise to immunization rates 90 percent. Kootenai County’s infant immunization rate is now at 62 percent.
