Matalin’s Motherly Tip: ‘No More Wire Hangers!’

Compiled By Staff Writer Dan Web

Yes, folks, we love to hear those old cliches about moms- and dads-to-be and how one side is so sensitive to the needs of the coming little curtain-climber and the other is so interested in the coming NBA playoffs.

Well, that ain’t the way it is in the James Carville-Mary Matalin household.

“The person most likely to be the sensitive, squishy type is Phil Donahue, not me,” says Matalin, 41, who expects a baby girl in May.

And Carville, apparently, is willing to play that role.

“He only talks in baby talk,” Matalin says. “I put some baby clothes in the dresser, and… he got all choked up and teary-eyed. I’m like, ‘What is this, a sympathy hormone?’ He’s in full-throttle Daddy mode and I’m as fat as a cow.”

French actor Gerard Depardieu on a popular American icon: “Whatever happened to John Travolta? I heard that he either joined some cult and got fat or he got married and had a child - which amounts to the same thing.”

As for her career, there is only ‘Blue Sky’ ahead

Jessica Lange turns 46 today.

Their next agent likely will possess a higher power

Here’s news: The record industry is corrupt. That comes from the Abbey of Santa Domingo de Sillos, the Spanish monastery whose members recorded the chart-busting album “Chant.” Despite selling six million copies of 1,000-old Gregoian chants, the choir got stiffed. “We hardly received a penny for the chart success,” the Rev. Laurentino Saenz de Buruaga told the New York Post on Tuesday.

Not only that, they have to use that 2 percent stuff

Over at Carolco Pictures, home of Renny Harlin’s forthcoming “Cutthroat Island,” the staff has been put on budget alert. To help recoup the $17 million cost overrun of the pirate feature, which stars Harlin’s wife Geena Davis, staff members have been instructed to use company-supplied milk for coffee only. Instead of for cereal.

If she did it on the beach, ‘Baywatch’ would be more fun

Pamela Anderson, the “Baywatch” babe whose 15 minutes should be just about up, will star in a big-screen feature titled “Barb Wire.” Based on the comic-book character, Anderson’s role calls for her to “blow away baddies without any remorse.”

Like many of us, she’s just one of the walking wounded

The quote: “I used to sort of really think of myself as a lousy person. Now I’m done with that. But believe me, I’m not the poster child for the well-adjusted. That I know.” The speaker: Actress Meg Ryan. The source: Vanity Fair magazine.

And do them, preferably, at different times

Movie producer David Brown, 78, had this longevity tip for USA Today. “Smoke cigars, get lots of sex, at least six hours of sleep a night, I’m not kidding,” he said. “But sex with your wife, so there’s no stress.” His wife is Helen Gurley Brown, 73, editor of Cosmopolitan magazine.
