Obituaries

Veil Bloodgood Newport, Wash.

Graveside service for Veil Bloodgood, 81, will be at 2 p.m. today at Newport Cemetery. Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home, Newport, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Bloodgood, who was born in Bridalveil, Ore., died Sunday.

He moved to Cusick, Wash., with his family, in 1934, and worked at the Diamond Match Sawmill.

He and his wife, Doris Bloodgood, moved to Newport in 1945. He was a mechanic and shop foreman for the Shackelton Chevrolet Garage and later as a mechanic for Straalsund-Thesman sawmill in Newport. He also worked for Fisher-Ruddach Dodge dealership, Rindell’s motors and KondoBockemuehl’s garage, from which he retired in 1978.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years; one daughter, Cathy Kingen of Clarkston, Wash.; two sons, Bob Bloodgood of Albany, Ore., and John Bloodgood of Newport; four grandchildren and four greatgrandchildren.

Donald McGuire Sr. Spokane

Service for Donald J. McGuire Sr., 72, will be at 1 p.m. today at Sunset Chapel at Fairmount Memorial Park. Burial will follow. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. McGuire, who died Monday, was born in Boston.

He had worked for Jensen-Byrd Co., for 38 years and lived in Spokane for 50 years.

He served in Army Air Corps and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 51.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Lila McGuire of Spokane; two sons, Donald McGuire Jr. and Thomas McGuire, both of Spokane; three daughters, Linda Shull and Margaret Stern, both of Spokane, and Kerry Clark of Tonasket, Wash.; two brothers, Robert and John McGuire, both of Boston; 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mildred Richardson Spokane

Graveside service for Mildred L. Richardson, 87, is set for 10 a.m. Friday at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Richardson died Saturday.

She was born in Roberts County, S.D., and had lived in Spokane for 75 years.

She was a school teacher and secretary in Spokane.

She was on the Board of Directors of the Children’s Rehabilitation Center, and was a member of the Soroptimist Club, the Philamena Guild of St. John Vianney and St. Pascals Churches.

Mrs. Richardson was secretary/ treasurer of the Bakers Union and also vice-president of the Bakers Union No. 74 Credit Union.

She is survived by one son, Paul David Yonko of Spokane; one brother, R.J. “Bud” Stanford; and two sisters, Florence James of Spokane and Loretta Felton of Anacortes, Wash.

Clara Listoe Smelterville, Idaho

Service for Clara C. Listoe, homemaker, is set for 11 a.m. Friday at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Pinehurst. Burial will be at Shoshone Memorial Garden in Kingston, Idaho. Shoshone Funeral Service, Kellogg, is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Listoe, 81, died Tuesday at Kootenai Medical Center.

She was born in 1914 in Rolla, N.D., and graduated from Westby High School, Westby, Mont. She married Arthur Listoe in 1938 in Plentywood, Mont. They moved from Westby to North Idaho in 1947.

Mrs. Listoe belonged to the Silver King Needle Craft Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1988.

Survivors include one son, Richard Listoe of Republic, Wash.; three daughters, Ardelle Vanderbusse of Spirit Lake, Pat Blakeny of Coeur d’Alene and Marilynn VanHoose of Kingston; one brother, Oscar Gunderson of Westby; two sisters, Martha Chaffee of Westby and Bernice Michiletti of Virginia; eight grandchildren and five greatgrandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Shoshone Medical Center, Extended Care Unit, Kellogg.

Lula Hage Spokane

Private service will be held at a later date for Lula E. Hage, 89, a lifetime Spokane resident.

Hazen Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Hage died Friday.

She and her husband, Alfred Hage, owned an accounting business for many years and a grocery store, which Mrs. Hage managed during World War II.

Her husband died in 1958.

Mrs. Hage was involved with Lutheran Social Services of Spokane and had been treasurer of the Spokane Council of Ecumenical ministries.

She served on the board of the Washington State Association of Churches, the Lutheran Council of Greater Spokane, and on the board of directors of Riverview Terrace Retirement Home.

She is survived by one sister, Mary Ella Adams of Spokane; two daughters, Marianna Stensager of Aberdeen, Wash., and Carolyn Nunemaker of Spokane; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Elmer Key St. Maries

At his request no service will be held for Elmer M. Key, 78, who died Sunday at Sunset Terrace Rehabilitation Center, Coeur d’Alene. Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d’Alene, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Key was born in Pomeroy, Wash., in 1916. He moved to Spokane at a young age and lived there until 1984, when he moved to St. Maries.

He worked 20 years for General Machinery, and also for McCollum Ford in Spokane. He belonged to the Automotive Machine Union and Western Metals Union.

He is survived by his wife, Margie, at home; one son, Jerry Key; one daughter, Sharon Larson; one stepson, Jerry Carter; one sister, “Babe” Edna LaRue; 12 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Harold Higgins Spokane

Memorial service for Harold H. Higgins, 62, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home.

A lifetime Spokane resident, Mr. Higgins died Tuesday.

He drove for Spokane Transit Authority for 33 years.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Pamela Higgins; two sons, Steve Higgins of Spokane and Tracy Higgins of Veradale; one daughter, Tamara Higgins of Veradale; one sister, Dora Mae Biss of Mead; his mother, Pearl Higgins of Colbert, and three grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association.

James Birdwell Nine Mile Falls

At the family’s request, no service will be held for James H. Birdwell, 81. Riplinger Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Birdwell, who died Tuesday, was born in Kosse, Texas.

He had lived in Nine Mile Falls for the past 10 years.

He served in the Navy during World War II and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He is survived by one daughter, Aurora Crooks of Nine Mile Falls; one stepdaughter, Mickey Chapman of Ramona, Calif.; one brother, Billy Birdwell of Bonita, Calif.; two sisters, Patricia Green of Texas and “Bitsy” Irwin of Sweeny, Texas; six grandchildren, seven greatgrandchildren and one great-greatgrandchild.

Bonnie Adams Spokane

Graveside service for Bonnie M. (Kyllo) Adams, 81, is set for 1 p.m. Friday at Fairmount Memorial Park. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Adams died Monday.

She was born in Starbuck, Wash., and was a homemaker. She had been a Spokane resident since 1945.

She is survived by her husband, Buster Adams; two sons, Sam Curtis of Coos Bay, Ore., and Duane Adams of Spokane; one daughter, Janice Adams of Spokane; three brothers, Floyd Kyllo of Grand Island, Neb., Sam Kyllo of Spokane and Wilbur Kyllo of Castro Valley, Calif.; three sisters, Violet Schwerin of Kettle Falls, Wash., Bessie Curtis of Colville, Wash., and Olive Lightfoot of Mead; and one grandson.
