Schlichter Pleads Guilty To Theft, Fraud Charges

Associated Press

Former Indianapolis Colts quarterback Art Schlichter, who is serving an 18- to 24-month sentence in a federal penitentiary, pleaded guilty Thursday to charges of theft and fraud in connection with writing bad checks to cover gambling debts.

Schlichter, 34, reached a plea agreement with Marion County prosecutors that calls for him to plead guilty to two felony counts. In exchange, prosecutors agreed that he could serve most of the two-year sentence at the same time he’s serving a separate federal sentence for bank fraud and theft.

Schlichter, the former Ohio State quarterback, is serving his sentence at the federal penitentiary in Terre Haute. He was arrested last November in Las Vegas on charges he bilked banks and friends there of more than $100,000. After being charged in Marion County in January, Schlichter admitted to opening checking accounts at Indianapolis banks and then writing checks on them.
