Nic Scores 10 In 9th To Defeat Ricks, 11-4

North Idaho College saved its best for last at Ricks College.
With two outs in the top of the ninth, the Cardinals erupted for 10 runs with the help of two-run home runs from Jeff Danton, Chris McGregor and Rob Sheridan in taking an 11-4 Region 18 victory Saturday in Rexburg, Idaho.
Jerud Martin also had a two-run double in the inning.
Ricks led 4-1 going into the ninth inning.
NIC is 7-5, 17-17.

Portland State 3-4, WSU 2-8
Ryan Kies had four hits in five times at bat to lead Washington State to an 8-4 victory and a split of its Pac-10 North doubleheader with Portland State Saturday at Portland.
Kyle Kawabata went the distance in the second half of the twinbill for Washington State.
The split, coupled with Washington’s doubleheader sweep of Oregon State, put Washington into first place in the conference race at 11-6. Portland State is 10-7 and Washington State 10-8.

Portland 7-3, Gonzaga 6-4
Gonzaga scored two runs in the top of the eighth inning to defeat the University of Portland in the second game of a Pacific-10 Northern Division doubleheader at Portland.
Portland (7-10, 17-19) won the seven-inning first game.
GU (8-11, 22-21) scored the tying and go-ahead runs in game two off a tworun single from Matt Brunnell who was 3 for 5 at the plate with three RBIs. Brunnell went a combined 6 for 9 in the doubleheader.

Washington 5-1, Oregon State 3-0
Washington took sole possession of first place in the Pac-10 North by sweeping Oregon State at Seattle.
Junior All-American Brett Merick earned saves in both games to give him nine on the year and 30 for his career. That mark broke the Pac-10 North record of 29 saves by held Portland State’s Tony Prentice.
The Huskies (11-6, 17-22) are a game ahead of Portland State. Oregon State fell to 6-10, 16-18-1.
Linfield 8-15, Whitworth 7-5
At Merkel Field, Whitworth’s Don O’Neal had a great day. Unfortunately, Whitworth didn’t.
Linfield (4-4, 15-8-1) swept Whitworth (4-4, 12-12-1) in a doubleheader.
The losses overshadowed O’Neal’s day at the plate in which he hit a grandslam in each game.
