Kalispell Teenager Shot, 12-Year-Old In Custody

Associated Press

A 16-year-old boy is dead and a 12-year-old was in custody Sunday after an early-morning shooting, Flathead County Sheriff Jim Dupont said.

The victim died Sunday afternoon, from a gunshot wound to the head, a sheriff’s dispatcher said.

The shooting was reported at 3:21 a.m. at a trailer south of Kalispell.

The boy who fired the pistol fled, but was apprehended about two hours later, Dupont said.

The boy was being held at the Flathead County Juvenile Detention Center.

Dupont said a preliminary investigation indicates the shooting was not deliberate, but could have been the result of negligent handling of the weapon.

The investigation continues.

The names of the boys were not released.
