Obituaries

Elizabeth Clark Davenport, Wash.

Service for Elizabeth M. Clark, 78, is set for 2 p.m. today at Zion Lutheran Church in Davenport, where she was a member. Burial will be at Mountain View Cemetery, Davenport. Strate Funeral Home, Davenport is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Clark, who was born in Egypt, Wash., north of Davenport, died Thursday.

She was a certified floral designer in the family floral shop in Davenport.

She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church. She and her husband, Paul, were Grand Marshalls for the Community Pioneer Day Parade in 1991.

Her husband died in 1992.

She is survived by three daughters, Marlene Knapp and Marjorie Huddle, both of Redmond, Wash., and Judy Scrupps of Odessa, Wash.; two brothers, Milton and Willard Reinbold, both of Davenport; one sister, Agnes Arsenault of Spokane; five grandchildren and five greatgrandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Zion Lutheran Church or the Lincoln Hospital Foundation.

Grace Dieni Portland

Burial Mass for former Spokane resident, Grace G. Dieni, 84, is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Rosary will be at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Mrs. Dieni died Thursday.

She was born in Italy and immigrated to the United States in 1923.

From 1928 until 1964 she lived in Kellogg, where she was the school cook at Sunnyside Grade School. She moved to the Spokane Valley in 1964. In 1971, she moved to the Portland area.

Her husband, Andrew Dieni, died in 1968.

Survivors include one daughter, JoAnn Knudsen of Portland; one son, Leo Dieni of Spokane; three sisters, Carmella Krauter and Jessie Bottler, both of Spokane, and Mae Patrick of Richardson, Texas; one brother, Carmen Canino of Spokane; four grandchildren and eight greatgrandchildren.

Kathryn ‘Kay’ Aspinwall Spokane

Service for Kathryn E. “Kay” Aspinwall, 86, is planned for 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Burial will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Born in Eureka, Mont., Mrs. Aspinwall died Thursday.

She worked for Pacific Northwest Bell for 34 years and retired in 1965. She had lived in Spokane for more than 50 years.

She was active in the Telephone Pioneers of America, Lilac Chapter and the Brotherhood of Friends.

Her husband, Charles Aspinwall, died in 1991.

She is survived by her sister-in-law, Louise Gregory of Palm Springs, Calif., and her brother-in-law and sister-inlaw, Richard and Elizabeth Aspinwall of Seattle.

Kathleen Rotchford Spokane

Funeral Mass for Kathleen Rotchford, 57, is planned for 11 a.m. Monday at St. Augustine Catholic Church. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Spokane, Mrs. Rotchford died Thursday.

She attended Holy Names Academy and graduated from Gonzaga University.

She had worked for the Washington State Insurance Commissioner’s Office since 1986.

She was a member of St. Augustine Parish and was involved with Faith Sharing and Renew groups.

She was also a foster parent.

Survivors include four sons, Russ, Gregg and Eric Akerhielm, all of Spokane, and Steven Akerhielm of Seattle; one daughter, Cynthia Aune of Tacoma; two brothers, Bob Rotchford of Spokane and Jim Rotchford of Arlington, Va.; one sister, Mary Lee Kendall of Spokane, and three grandchildren.

Hazel Bare Fairfield

Service for Hazel Bare, 93, was held Saturday at First Presbyterian Church in Fairfield. Memorial contributions may be made to Fairfield Good Samaritan Center.

Born in Spokane, Mrs. Bare died Wednesday. She graduated from North Central High School and Cheney Normal School. She was a schoolteacher for seven years and was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Spokane.

Her husband, Harold Bare, died in 1985. She is survived by two sisters, Alva Bare of Citrus Heights, Calif., and Betty McPherson of Spokane, and one brother, Ralph Peterson, Sagle, Idaho.

Margaret Schuster Spokane

Burial Mass for Margaret M. Schuster, 84, will be at 10 a.m. today at St. Peter Catholic Church, where she was a member. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Schuster, who died Friday, was born in Langenburg, Saskatchewan. She was a registered nurse at Sacred Heart Medical Center for 30 years and was a member of the American Nurses Association.

She had lived in Spokane since 1932.

She is survived by one son, K.D. Schuster of Spokane; one daughter, Sister Lorene Schuster of Frankenmuth, Mich.; one brother, Leon Hirsch of Lewiston; three grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren.

Frederick Hein Spokane

Funeral Mass for Frederick W. Hein, 83, will be at 10 a.m. today at St. Charles Catholic Church with burial at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Hein died Wednesday. Born in Reardan, Wash., he retired as a mechanic from the Spokane County Garage in 1974. He was a member of St. Charles Parish. His wife, Evelyn, died in 1986.

He is survived by one daughter, Luanne Dierking of Vacaville, Calif.; two sisters, Sister Mildred Hein of Spokane, and Phyllis Wendlandt of Reardan, Wash.

Memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Charities Foster Children Program.

Marvin Butler Spokane

Vigil service for Marvin Eugene Butler, 52, is planned for 7 p.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Charles Catholic Church with burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Mr. Butler, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Wednesday.

He had worked for The SpokesmanReview since 1964, as a photo engraver.

He is survived by his mother, Marvel Butler of Spokane, and one brother, Roger Butler of San Rafael, Calif.

Memorial contributions may be made to Poor Clare Nuns, St. Charles Parish or Hospice of Spokane.

Laura Young Loon Lake, Wash.

Service for Laura Adeline Young, 61, is planned for 1 p.m. Monday at Lauer Funeral Home in Deer Park. Inurnment will be at Bear Creek Cemetery in the Methow Valley.

Mrs. Young, a homemaker, died April 17. She was born in San Diego, Calif. and graduated from high school in Twisp, Wash., in 1951.

Survivors include her husband of 36 years, William Young; one daughter, Kathy Strong of Deer Park; one son, Bruce Young of Spokane; one brother, Stanley Werdick of San Diego; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

David Schaffer Homer, Alaska

Service for David Charles Schaffer, 46, was held held in Alaska.

Mr. Schaffer died April 9.

He was born in Albany, N.Y.

He moved to Spokane in 1968, from Montana and worked in the construction industry. He moved to Alaska in 1983.

He is survived by his wife, Deborah Schaffer; his mother, Catherine Schaeffer of Delmar, N.Y.; four brothers, Richard and Peter Schaffer, both of Ravena, N.Y., Dennis of Selkirk, N.Y., and William of Delmar.
